FEBRUARY HIGHLIGHTS

Wednesday 28th February.

Leiston - A Glossy Ibis was present on Aldhurst Farm wetland viewable from Carr Road at 08:05hrs.

Lower Ufford - A Jack Snipe was noted.

Tuesday 27th February.

Lowestoft Area - Hawfinch Wrentham Old Cemetery + Black Kite over.

Minsmere - 14 Bewicks Swan on the scrape then flew North. Redhead Smew on the scrape + 5 Whooper Swan & 3 Goosander on Island Mere.

Eastbridge - Adult Glossy Ibis still present and viewed from the bridge + Woodcock.

Westleton - Mealy Redpoll seen on feeders in the village.

Felixstowe - 4 Waxwing Blofield Road in trees adjacent to railtrack for 2nd day. Purple Sand at Landguard.

Long Melford - Hawfinch seen at the start of Kentwell Hall Avenue early morning.

Tuddenham St. Mary - Juvenile Iceland Gull seen again in pig fields.

Monday 26th February.

Minsmere - 2 redhead Smew still on the reserve.

Slaughden - 2 Purple Sands on the river side.

Ipswich - 2 Goosander (1 drake) on the wildnerness pond Chrustchurch Park.

Stowmarket - Raven again early morning seen by Roots and Shoots (Badley).

Sunday 25th February.

Minsmere - Highlights from around the reserve included: 2 Jack Snipe, redhead Smew, Glaucous Gull & single Snow Bunting on the beach.

Eastbridge - The adult Glossy Ibis continues to show well.

Trimley Marshes - 6 Greenland White-fronted Geese still viewable from the platform.

Levington - Siberian Chiffchaff still at the sewage works.

Tattingstone - 4 Hawfinch still present though mobile. (photo Lee Woods)

Saturday 24th February.

Lowestoft Area - Glossy Ibis at Breydon Water viewable from the South wall by the pump house.

Eastbridge - Adult Glossy Ibis still on the meadow West of the bridge.

Trimley Marshes - 6 Greenland White-fronted Geese still from the viewing platform + Snow Bunting over the saltings.

Orwell Estuary - Shag viewable from Levington Marina early morning.

Levington - Siberian Chiffchaff showing well at the sewage works.

Friday 23rd February.

Dunwich - 2 Great Egrets seen on Dingle/Westwood Marshes.

Westleton - 14 Bewicks Swan again in roadside fields.

Minsmere - 2 redhead Smew remain on the reserve + a Mealy Redpoll was seen amongst 12 Lesser Redpoll in the Rhododendron Tunnel. 

Eastbridge - Adult Glossy Ibis still on the flood.

Orwell Estuary - A Shag was seen at Levington Marina.

Stowmarket - Raven seen in fields behinds Muntons Factory at TM068574.

Thursday 22nd February.

Dunwich - Great Egret Dingle Marsh + Whooper Swan & 7 Snow Bunting on the beach.

Minsmere - The 2nd calendar year Glaucous Gull was again seen on the beach today + the family party of 5 Whooper Swan remain on the pool behind West hide. The 2 redhead Smew remain on South scrape + 16 Snow Bunting along the beach.

Eastbridge - The adult Glossy Ibis continues to show on the flood by the road bridge. Please do not park on the soft verges.

Deben Estuary - Short-eared Owl seen by the Ferry Boat Inn Felixstowe Ferry.

Levington - The Siberian Chiffchaff remains at the sewage works.

Needham Market - A Raven was seen North over the River Gipping at 07:30hrs.

Wednesday 21st February.

Covehithe - A probable Coues's Arctic Redpoll was seen amongst c50 Lesser Redpoll at the start of the track to Covehithe Broad.

Dunwich - 2cy Glaucous Gull, Great Egret, 6 Snow Bunting seen from the shingle ridge at Dingle Marshes + Long-tailed Duck offshore amongst 50 Common Scoter.

Adleburgh - 9 Snow Bunting by the yacht club, Slaughden.

Boyton - 2 Whooper Swan Boyton Marshes + Pink-footed Goose.

Hollesley - 20 Eurasian White-fronted Geese Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Orwell Estuary - Water Pipit on saltings by Levington Creek.

Tuesday 20th February.

Minsmere - Spoonbill briefly on West scrape this morning + 2 redhead Smew & 5 Whooper Swan remain on the reserve.

Eastbridge - The adult Glossy Ibis continues to show on the flood by the bridge.

Monday 19th February.

Eastbridge - Glossy Ibis still present on the flood viewable from the road-bridge.

Aldeburgh - No sign of the Coues's Arctic Redpoll in brief search in recently re-ploughed field at Hazelwood Common. 6 Snow Bunting by the yacht club.

Sunday 18th February.

Southwold - Adult Caspian Gull on flood in NE corner of Town Marsh.

Walberswick - 6 Snow Bunting 600 yards South of river mouth.

Dunwich - Great Egret Dingle Marsh.

Minsmere - 2 redhead Smew on South scrape + 7 Snow Bunting on beach. Highlights seen at roost included 11 Goosander. 5 Whooper Swan, 14 Bewicks Swan + 2cy Glaucous Gull roosted on the scrape at 17:35hrs

Eastbridge - Adult Glossy Ibis still on flood.

North Warren - 157 Eurasian White-fronted Geese on North Marsh incl. 2 neck collars.

Aldeburgh - Coues's Arctic Redpoll still  Hazelwood Marsh.

Saturday 17th February.

Dunwich - 2 Great Egret Dingle Marshes + c400 Common Scoter offshore.

Westleton - 14 Bewicks Swan in fields West of B1125.

Minsmere - 6 Whooper & 15 Bewicks Swans left roost early morning. 2 redhead Smew showing from the public hide

Eastbridge - The adult Glossy Ibis continues to show well on the flood by the road bridge. Please do not park on soft verges.

North Warren - 100+ Eurasian White-fronted Geese on North Marsh.

Aldeburgh - The Coues's Arctic Redpoll continues to show at Hazelwood Common approx 50 yards from the car park. Purple Sand at Slaughden (photo Craig Holden).

Hollesley - A Raven was seen North over Hollesley Marshes early afternoon.

Bawdsey - Female Greater Scaup on the lagoons at 15:00hrs.

Lackford - Juvenile Iceland Gull again at Lackford Lakes SWT from 14:10hrs.

Friday 16th February.

Lowestoft Area - 4 Hawfinch in Wrentham Old Cemetery.

Dunwich - 5 Whooper Swan North.

Minsmere - 15 Snow Buntings on the beach + 2 redhead Goosander on West scrape & 5 Whooper Swan over East hide. 14 Bewicks Swan roosted on East scrape. Long-tailed Duck offshore.

Eastbridge - Adult Glossy Ibis still on the flood.

Boyton - 20 Eurasian White-fronted Geese Boyton Marshes.

Sutton - No sign of any Parrot Crossbill but 2 Mealy Redpoll seen amongst 15 Lesser Redpoll viewable from public right of way.

Ipswich - 2 Goosander (1 drake) on the wilderness pond Christchurch Park.

Lackford - Juvenile Iceland Gull in the roost this evening.

Thursday 15th February.

Lowestoft Area - 1 female Hawfinch in the grounds of the Old Cemetery, Wrentham.

Dunwich - 3 Great Egret Dingle Marshes.

Minsmere - Glaucous Gull, 5 Whooper Swan, 15 Snow Bunting, 2 redhead Smew & 6 Goosander noted around the reserve today.

Eastbridge - Adult Glossy Ibis still present.

Thorpeness - 8 Snow Bunting seen on the beach.

Sutton - 3+ Parrot Crossbill over Sutton Common.

Felixstowe - 2 Purple Sands on the point at Landguard.

Tattingstone - Hawfinch showing well at Tattingstone Place.

Long Melford - 6 Hawfinches along Kentwell Hall Avenue early morning.

Wednesday 14th February.

Eastbridge - Adult Glossy Ibis still present.

Boyton - 2 Whooper Swan seen at Boyton Hall Farm.

Tattingstone - Hawfinch seen well at 'The Old Rectory'.

Tuddenham St. Mary - Juvenile Iceland Gull again in pigfields viewed from Cavenham Road.

Stoke by Nayland - 8 Hawfinch seen at the church yard.

Tuesday 13th February.

Lowestoft Area - Hawfinch at Wrentham Old Cemetery.

Minsmere - 2 redhead Smew on East scrape, 5 Whooper Swan on the konik field & 14 Bewicks Swan roosted on East scrape until 06:50hrs. 11 Goosander roosted on East scrape this evening.

Aldeburgh - The long-staying Coues's Arctic Redpoll continues to show at Hazelwood Common.

Levington - The Siberian Chiffchaff continues to show at the sewage works.

Monday 12th February.

Lowestoft Area - 2 Hawfinch remain at the old cemetery at Wrentham + Red Kite over. 4 Purp Sands Ness Point.

Westleton - 14 Bewicks Swan again in field just est of B1125. (Minsmere birds, see below)

Minsmere - 2cy Glaucous Gull on beach early morning, 2 redhead Smew on East scrape + 14 Bewicks Swan & 9 Goosander left roost on East scrape at 07:00hrs.

Sizewell - Male Black Redstart at Sizewell B.

Thorpeness - 5 Goosander on the Meare.

North Warren - 179 Eurasian White-fronted Geese on North Marsh + 9 Snow Bunting on the beach.

Trimley Marshes - 6 Greenland White-fronts, 3 Eurasian White-fronts & a single Tundra Bean Goose from the viewpoint platform.

Levington - Siberian Chiffchaff still at the sewage works.

Tattingstone - Hawfinch seen by the vegetable stall + drake Goosander nearby on Alton Water from Lemons Hill bridge.

Stoke by Nayland - Red Kite at 11:30hrs

Sunday 11th February.

Lowestoft Area - Female Hawfinch Wrentham Old Cemetery.

Westleton - 14 Bewicks Swan (3 juvs) West of B1125.

Minsmere - 2cy Glaucous Gull North at 10:05hrs + 2 Smew (redheads) on the scrape, 5 Whooper Swan from Bittern hide & redhead Goosander on Island Mere.

Eastbridge - Glossy Ibis (adult) still on the flood by the road bridge.

Boyton - Red Kite over Boyton Marshes.

Deben Estuary - Female Merlin noted at Waldringfield.

Trimley - 3 Tundra Bean, 6 Greenland White-fronts & 3 Eurasian White-fronted Geese viewable from the viewing platform.

Lakenheath - Great Egret present on the South side of the river + 11 Whooper & 1 Bewicks Swan at Joist Fen. (photo Barry Woodhouse).

Saturday 10th February.

Westleton - 13 Bewicks Swan present in fields along the Blythburgh - Westleton Road.

Minsmere - 2 redhead Smew on pools near North hide.

Eastbridge - Adult Glossy Ibis still on flood near the bridge.

Aldeburgh - Coues's Arctic Redpoll Hazelwood Common + 1 Mealy Redpoll.

Deben Estuary - Both the adult Whooper and Bewicks Swans remain on Corporation Marsh, Kirton Creek.

Trimley Marshes - 6 Greenland White-fronts, 3 Eurasian White-fronts & 3 Tundra Bean Geese seen from the viewing platform

Orwell Estuary - Great Northern Diver seen to fly upriver early morning viewed from Levington Marina.

Levington - The Siberian Chiffchaff was again present at the sewage works.

Livermere - Adult Mealy Redpoll trapped & ringed Livermere Lake + Red Kite over.

Long Melford - 2 Hawfinch present along Kentwell Hall Avenue.

Friday 9th February.

Lowestoft Area - No sign of the Black-throated Diver on Lake Lothing but Shag noted. Red-throated Diver present at the West end of Oulton Broad.

Minsmere - 5 Whooper Swan remain on the pool behind West hide + redhead Smew from the mound.

Sizewell - Black Redstart by Sizewell A.

Eastbridge - The adult Glossy Ibis was again present on the flood viewable from the roadbridge. Please do not park on soft verges.

North Warren - 150 Eurasian White-fronted Geese on North Marsh

Snape - 2 Water Pipit on Botany Marshes.

Aldeburgh - Coues's Arctic Redpoll still present + at least 1 Mealy Redpoll.

Trimley Marshes - 6 Greenland White-fronts, 3 Eurasian White-fronts, 3 Tundra Bean and a single Pink-footed Goose from the viewing platform.

Orwell Estuary - 12 Red-breasted Merganser's along The Strand.

Thursday 8th February.

Lowestoft Area - A Black-throated Diver was present on Lake Lothing West of the rail bridge. 3 Hawfinch present in the grounds of the old cemetery at Wrentham.

Southwold - 1st winter Glaucous Gull seen along the harbour wall at 15:40hrs.

Minsmere - 2 redhead Smew on East scrape.

Eastbridge - Glossy Ibis again on the flood.

Aldeburgh - Coues's Arctic Redpoll still at Hazelwood Common + 2 Mealy Redpoll.

Boyton - Ring-tail Hen Harrier seen mid afternoon over the marshes.

Hollesley - 6 Parrot Crossbill still Upper Hollesley Common though mobile.

Felixstowe - Adult male Black Redstart on the dock complex near shed.70.

Levington - The Siberian Chiffchaff continues to show at the sewage works. Great Northern Diver on the river viewable from the creek.

Orwell Estuary - Shag along the strand + 14 Red-breasted Mergs.

Tattingstone - Hawfinch seen again from the vegetable stall.

Stoke by Nayland - Red Kite over 15:30hrs.

Wednesday 7th February.

Dunwich - Great Egret on Dingle Marsh.

Minsmere - 2 redhead Smew on East + 5 Whooper Swan on the reserve (photo above David Carter). Water Pipit present & showing well on Island Mere.

Eastbridge - Adult Glossy Ibis again on flood from bridge, please do not park on soft verges.

Aldeburgh - Coues's Arctic Redpoll still Hazelwood Common + 2 Mealy Redpoll.

Felixstowe - Great Northern Diver North off LBO early morning.

Covehithe - 3 Mealy Redpoll seen along the track to the broad. 12 Tree Sparrow seen at near-by Easton Broad.

Minsmere - The adult Glossy Ibis was seen on East scrape this morning. The 5 Whooper Swan remain behind est hide & a redhead Smew was noted from the mould by the pond.

Eastbridge - The adult Glossy Ibis was again seen on the flood late afternoon.

Sizewell - 2 Black Redstart (1 male) seen by Siewell A.

Yoxford - 3 Waxwing seen by the River Yox just prior to 10:00hrs.

Aldeburgh - The Coues's Arctic Redpoll remain at Hazelwood Common + 2 Mealy & 20 Lesser Redpoll.

Felixstowe - 4 Short-eared Owls seen at the ferry late afternoon.

Orwell Estuary - 2 Great Northern Divers viewable off Levington + Water Pipit seen at Levington Creek.

Monday 5th February.

Lowestoft Area - 3+ Hawfinch still in the old cemetery Wrentham + 2 Red Kite & the escaped Black Kite remain nearby.

Minsmere - 22 Snow Bunting still by the sluice. 5 Whooper Swan on pool viewable from Bittern hide + Pink-footed Goose on the levels.

Eastbridge - The adult Glossy Ibis remains on the flood.

Aldeburgh - Coues's Arctic Redpoll still Hazelwood Common.

Felixstowe - 3 Short-eared Owl by the ferry.

Trimley Marshes - 6 Greenland White-fronts & 7 Eurasian White-fronted Geese remain on the SWT reserve.

Levington - Snow Bunting seen by the marina.

Orwell Estuary - 2 Great Northern Diver on the river, one off Loompit Lake the other over Levington marina.

Tattingstone - 6+ Hawfinch seen by Tattingstone Place.

Witnesham - Male Black Redstart along fenceline opposite Fynn Valley golf club.

Sunday 4th February.

Lowestoft Area - 4+ Hawfinch still present in the grounds of the old cemetery.

Minsmere - The party family of 5 Whooper Swan remain on the pool behind West hide. 20 Snow Bunting by the sluice early afternoon.

Eastbridge - The adult Glossy Ibis was again seen on the flood from 11:00hrs. Please do not park on soft verges.

Hollesley - 19 Eurasian White-fronted Geese on the scrape.

Felixstowe - 2 Purple Sands + adult Yellow-legged Gull at LBO.

Trimley Marshes - 6 Greenland White-fronted Geese & 3 Tundra Bean Geese remain on the reserve + 2 Snow Bunting noted

Levington - The Siberian Chiffchaff continues to show by the sewage works + Water Pipit nearby & Great Northern Diver still on the river viewable from the creek. (photo Eddie Marsh)

Tattingstone - 5+ Hawfinch Tattingstone Place viewed from the vegetable stall.

Needham Market - Red Kite over Pipps Ford.

Long Melford - 2 Hawfinch along Kentwell Hall Avenue at 09:35hrs.

Saturday 3rd February.

Lowestoft Area - 5 Hawfinch in Wrentham Old Cemetery + 2 Red Kite & escaped Black Kite in the general area.

Reydon - Red Kite on Randolph Arms at midday.

Dunwich - 2 Great Egret still on Dingle Marshes + Long-tailed Duck offshore amongst c100 Common Scoter.

Westleton - The 11 Bewicks Swan were seen in fields between Hinton x-roads & Westleton.

Minsmere - 5 Whooper Swan still behind West hide. Water Pipit Island Mere.

Eastbridge - Glossy Ibis again on the flood viewable from the bridge (had roosted by Island Mere Minsmere).

Sizewell - 2 Black Redstart by the power station briefly.

North Warren - c130 Eurasian White-fronted Geese on North Marsh + 5 Snow Buntings on the beach.

Aldeburgh - Coues's Arctic Redpoll still Hazelwood Common.

Deben Estuary - Both the Whooper & Bewicks Swan remain at Kirton Creek. Short-eared Owl seen at Hemley.

Trimley Marshes - 6 Greenland White-fronts, 7 Eurasian White-fronts & 3 Tundra Bean Geese on the SWT reserve.

Levington - The Siberian Chiffchaff was seen again today at the sewage works though can be elusive + Water Pipit in the creek and Great Northern Diver in the river. (photo Lee Woods)

Long Melford - Female Hawfinch Kentwell Hall Avenue in mistletoe covered limes at TL.867.468.

Friday 2nd February.

Lowestoft Area - Hawfinch seen at Wrentham Old Cemetery + Red Kite near-by.

Westleton - 11 Bewicks Swan viewable from Lymballs Lane.

Minsmere - 5 Whooper Swan on pool behind West hide.

Sizewell - Male Black Redstart present.

Slaughden - 25 Snow Bunting still present by the yacht club.

Orwell Estuary - Siberian Chiffchaff still present at the sewage works + 3 Water Pipits at the creek.

Wenhaston - Glossy Ibis still repotably present at Church Farm Marsh.

Dunwich - Great Egret Dingle Marsh + Long-tailed Duck amongst c60 Common Scoter offshore.

Minsmere - Juvenile Glaucous Gull again noted.

Aldeburgh - Coues's Arctic Redpoll still Hazelwood Marsh. c30 Snow Bunting near the yacht club though mobile.
