APRIL HIGHLIGHTS

Friday 30th.

Waveney Area - Highlights from around Carlton Marshes SWT today include 3 Wood Sands on the original scrape, Blue-headed Wagtail on Share Marsh + drake Garganey & adult Little Gull still present, also a probable BLACK KITE was seen over Peto's Marsh at c11:30hrs. 2 male Ring Ouzel were present on Worlingham Marshes this evening.

Walberswick - The 3 male Ring Ouzels remain on the cricket pitch this morning though mobile then later on Walberswick Common.

North Warren - A BLACK KITE was present on north marsh between 07:51 - 08:38hrs before heading south over Aldeburgh.

Boyton - Spoonbill on Boyton Marshes.

Hollesley - 5 Pink-footed Geese remain on the RSPB reserve.

Woodbridge - Raven seen over Bredfield Road heading towards Grundisburgh mid afternoon.

Trimley Marshes - 2 Temminck's Stint still on the winter flood at the SWT reserve + 2 Wood Sand & Spotted Redshank.

Thursday 29th.

Waveney Area - A busy day of sighting's from Carlton Marsh SWT reserve which included a BLACK KITE which was seen high SW over Peto's Marsh at 11:56hrs, also drake Garganey, 2 Arctic Tern, male Blue-headed Wagtail and adult Little Gull present + Wood Sand seen on the first pool on Share Marsh just beyond the lookout hide. This evening, a HOOPOE was briefly seen on rough ground between the back of Spratts Water and the visitor centre at 17:48hrs, the bird was soon lost to view and no further sign by 19:15hrs. A Black Tern was noted north along the River Waveney at Castle Marshes North Cove this evening.

Southwold - A Wood Sand was seen on the flash in the NE corner of Town Marsh early morning.

Walberswick - A female Blue-headed Wagtail was seen on the first pool at Tinkers Marsh + Spotted Redshank & LRP noted. 3 male Ring Ouzel were present on the village cricket pitch at 15:25hrs.

Minsmere - A Common Crane was seen early morning viewed along the Eastbridge - Sluice footpath.

Aldeburgh - HOODED CROW noted on Ton Marsh.

Felixstowe - 2 Black Redstart present at LBO.

Trimley Marshes - 2 Temmincks Stint on the winter flood + Wood Sand.

Martlesham - A male Ring Ouzel was seen just north of Martlesham / south of the A12 west of roundabout.

Needham Market - A HONEY BUZZARD was noted east over Pipps Ford being mobbed by Common Buzzards at 10:10hrs.

Brecks - The long-staying Cattle Egret continues to show on Cavenham Heath viewed from the temple bridge.

Wednesday 28th.

Waveney Area - 3 Arctic Tern north past North Beach at 14:30hrs + Bonxie.

Kesgrave - The singing male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF remains on Foxhall Heath just south of the speedway track.

Felixstowe - Black Redstart still at LBO.

Great Livermere - Single Black Tern present at Livermere Lake + 4 Arctic Tern thru.

Lakenheath - 2 Garganey (both drakes) at Lakenheath Fen RSPB + Wood Sand, also 2 Little Tern + single Arctic Tern thru.

Tuesday 27th.

Waveney Area - 3 Common Cranes SW over Carlton at 12:38hrs.

Benacre - 3 Common Crane seen high south over Benacre church at 12:51hrs.

Southwold - ROUGH-LEGGED BUZZARD seen over Buss Creek early afternoon.

Reydon - 2 Common Crane low over Reydon Smeare at 16:55hrs (reported earlier at Covehithe) 

Dunwich - 2 Common Crane south over Dingle Marshes early morning + Short-eared Owl noted.

Hollesley - 5 Pink-footed Geese still on the RSPB reserve.

Trimley - A Ring Ouzel was noted east of Loompit Lake, just east of the 2nd copse along the edge of the winter wheat field + 1st summer Little Gull still.

Kesgrave - IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF still present and singing on Foxhall Heath.

Hadleigh - Great Egret still Giffords flood, Higham.

Lakenheath - PURPLE HERON NE over the RSPB reserve at 16:17hrs.

Monday 26th.

Southwold - A Wryneck was found mid morning by brush pile on the by the gold practice area.

Minsmere - Drake Garganey on East scrape.

Hollesley - 5 Pink-footed Geese on the RSPB reserve + LRP.

Felixstowe - Black Redstart still at LBO.

Trimley - 1st summer Little Gull still on Loompit Lake + LRP on the nearby retreat.

Kesgrave - Singing male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF still on Foxhall Heath just south of the stadium.

Needham Market - Wood Sand at Pipps Ford.

Sunday 25th.

Waveney Area - Wryneck present in a private in Kessingland. 2 Common Swift over Carlton Marshes.

Covehithe - Bonxie noted offshore.

Southwold - Sea-watching offshore produced northbound BLACK-THROATED DIVER, Pomarine Skua and Bonxie by 08:30hrs.

Westleton - 2 Ring Ouzel on the heath this morning.

Felixstowe - Black Redstart still present at LBO.

Kesgrave - The male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF continues to sing and occasionally show well on Foxhall Heath.

Tostock - A male Ring Ouzel was seen in fields at Tostock near Woolpit (photo Jonathan Coe).

Great Livermere - 6 Little Gull still remain at Livermere Lake.

Saturday 24th

Waveney Area - 2 Cattle Egret still Oulton Marshes near green hut by railway line.

Southwold - A GOSHAWK was seen north over the flash at 10:08hrs

Walberswick - Short-eared Owl seen along the river all between the Bailey Bridge and Tinkers Marsh.

Darsham - Ring Ouzel seen in flight near Darsham Marshes SWT at 15:40hrs.

Boyton - Spotted Redshank seen by the flash at Boyton Marshes.

Felixstowe - 3 Black Redstart at LBO + 20 Little Gull noted offshore..

Trimley -2 partial summer-plumaged Curlew Sands on the winter flood at the SWT reserve + 3 adult Little Gulls, near-by an immature Little Gull was present on Loompit Lake.

Kesgrave - The singing male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF remains on Foxhall Heath favouring birch trees just south of the turnstile entrance to the Speedway stadium.

Stowmarket - A WHITE STORK was seen circling over TDG warehouse at 08:50hrs.

Great Livermere - 14 Arctic Terns went thru Livermere Lake early morning + 7 Little Gull (3 adult), 3 Spotted Redshank & Wood Sand noted.

Brecks - Cattle Egret still on Cavenham Heath viewed from the bridge.

Friday 23rd.

Waveney Area - 2 Cattle Egret Oulton Marshes between railway line and river wall near green hut.

Blythburgh - Male Hen Harrier seen by the water tower at 09:00hrs.

Snape - Osprey north at 10:00hrs.

Butley - Male Blue-headed Wagatail seen at the ferry.

Boyton - Drake Garganey seen at the flash (photo Eddie Marsh).

Hollesley - Short-eared Owl seen along the river wall between Hollesley and Shingle Street.

Sutton - Osprey seen circling the heath at 08:50hrs.

Felixstowe - 2 Black Redstart at LBO, offshore Great Northern Diver, Arctic Skua, Arctic Tern and 14 Little Gull noted.

Trimley - 8 adult Little Gulls at Loompit Lake this afternoon then flew downriver

Kesgrave - The IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF continues to sing and show well on Foxhall Heath.

Brecks - Cattle Egret still Cavenham Heath flash viewed from the bridge.

Thursday 22nd.

Waveney Area - 3 Cattle Egret seen in the area today with 2 birds present at Oulton Marshes and a singleton on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marsh + ring-tail Hen Harrier seen & 3 Arctic Terns seen at the SWT reserve. 2 Cattle Egret roosted at Carlton Marshes this evening + 5 Great Egret.

Walberswick - Immature male Hen Harrier thru Tinkers Marsh.

Westleton - Ring-tail Hen Harrier seen again this morning over the heath.

Minsmere - Common Crane seen from Whin Hill between 17:35 - 18:05hrs then drifted towards Eastbridge.

Boyton - Spoonbill Boyton Marshes.

Hollesley - Jack Snipe still Hollesley Marsh RSPB + 2 LRP.

Felixstowe - 2 Black Redstart at LBO.

Trimley - 2 Little Gull on Loompit Lake.

Waveney Area - Wryneck at Breydon Water along the South Wall in scrub west of rugby club in scrub west of small car park. 2 Cattle Egret & 5 Great Egret Carlton Marsh SWT + 7 Arctic Terns present from north hide.

Walberswick - 2 Little Gull still Tinkers Marsh

Dunwich - 2 Garganey (1 drake) still on Sandymount Pool this morning.

Minsmere - 3 Garganey on the reserve + Great Egret on the levels.

Yoxford - Male Hen Harrier seen over the B1122 between Yoxford and Middleton Moor at c19:10hrs then carried on northwards,

North Warren - 4 Great Egret on south marsh this morning.

Hollesley - 1st summer Caspian Gull Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Felixstowe - Ring Ouzel seen on the beach at LBO in bushes by the wooden boardwalk.

Kesgrave - Singing male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF still present at the southern edge of Foxhall Heath.

Stowmarket - Adult male Hen Harrier over rape field Combs Ford viewable from the end of Jacks Lane.

Tuesday 20th.

Waveney Area - 3 x 1st summer Little Gull dip feeding over Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes.

Blythburgh - WHITE-TAILED EAGLE reported in the area (present c4 days)

Walberswick - 2 Little Gull on Tinkers Marsh + Spoonbill

Westleton - Ringtail Hen Harrier seen over the heath again.

Boyton - Spoonbill Boyton Marshes.

Felixstowe - Black Redstart singing from the fort at LBO + Nightingale by the mining station.

Trimley Marshes - Ring Ouzel seen in alders by the Reservoir hide at 07:20hrs. 1st summer Little Gull still at Loompit Lake.

Kesgrave - The singing male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF was again present by Foxhall stadium.

Brecks - Juvenile Iceland Gull again in the Cavenham Heath in pig fields SE of the car park. Juvenile Black Redstart on rooftops at Barton Mills.

Monday 19th.

Hollesley - Spoonbill Hollesley Marsh RSPB + Jack Snipe still.

Felixstowe - A SIBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF was trapped at LBO this morning (photo Will Brame).

Kesgrave - The singing male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF continues to show well on Foxhall Heath just south of the speedway track. If accepted, this individual will consist of the 5th record for Suffolk, following singles seen in order of arrival at LBO, Lowestoft, Dunwich Heath and finally Minsmere all within the past 5 years.

Sunday 18th.

Waveney Area - 3 Black Redstart in Sparrows Nest Park this morning + adult Black Redstart on Hamilton Road, Lowestoft. Male Common Redstart at Kessingland sewage works.

Southwold - 2 Garganey (1 drake) on Buss Creek flash. Black Redstart still in paddocks at Gun Hill.

Dunwich - 3 Great Egret + 2 Garganey (1 drake) Sandymount  Covert pool.

Westleton - Ringtail Hen Harrier seen again over the heath at 09:55hrs.

Minsmere - 1st summer Little Gull on west scrape + c160 Sandwich Tern.

Kesgrave - The singing male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF was again present in silver birches within the grounds of Ipswich Speedway track.

Waveney Area - A full summer-plumaged Cattle Egret was seen along the Suffolk side of the Waveney at Bungay. 2 Great Egret Carlton Marshes. 2 1w Shag on groynes south of Swimming Pool Road.

Southwold - 2 Garganey (1 drake) Buss Creek Marshes.

Dunwich - 2 Garganey Sanymount Covert pool + 8 Spotted Redshank

Westleton - Ringtail Hen Harrier Mount Pleasnat Farm

North Warren - Great Egret still on south marsh.

Hollesley - Jack Snipe still viewable from the river wall near the pillbox.

Waveney Area - Juvenile Iceland Gull north over Gunton at 17:15hrs.

Westleton - Ringtail Hen Harrier over the heath at 17:20hrs.

Minsmere - Drake Garganey on west scrape, Spoonbill on south levels + summer plumage Water Pipit on Lucky Pool. A 2cy Little Gull was present on the scrape this afternoon.

Felixstowe - Singing male Black Redstart still at LBO.

Trimley - 1st summer Little Gull still at Loompit Lake.

Brecks - The Cattle Egret continues to show on Cavenham Heath + the Iceland Gull was seen again early morning on the pits.

Tuesday 13th.

Waveney Area - Wryneck seen in dunes c1/2 mile north of Links Road car park Gunton late morning.

Southwold - No sign today of the Grey Phalarope on Town Marshes.

Reydon - Adult TAIGA BEAN GOOSE still Hen Reedbeds.

Westleton - Ring-tail Hen Harrier over Westleton quarry.

Minsmere - A GOSHAWK was seen over the visitor centre at 13:00hrs + Spoonbill on east scrape.

Felixstowe - Black Redstart still at LBO.

Trimley - Juvenile Little Gull at Loompit Lake + 4 Whimbrel near-by at the managed retreat.

Brecks - An Iceland Gull was seen on Cavenham Pits for 2nd day, near-by the long-staying Cattle Egret remains by the flash.

Monday 12th.

Waveney Area - Black Redstart along Limes Avenue Oulton Broad (present c3 weeks)

Benacre - Black Redstart still by the caravan near Beach Farm + Black Redstart by Covehithe church.

Southwold - GREY PHALAROPE still on the flash in the NE corner of Town Marsh.

Westleton - Nightingale on Westleton Heath.

Minsmere - Adult Spoonbill dropped into south scrape at 11:50hrs.

Sunday 11th.

Waveney Area - Common Crane over Aldeby area seen distantly from Carlton Marsh SWT then over the northern tip of Peto's Marsh before heading towards St Olaves.

Benacre - Black Redstart Beach Farm (near the caravan) near-by, Black Redstart by Covehithe church.

Southwold - GREY PHALAROPE still on flash in NE corner of Town Marsh, near-by 2 Black Redstart Gun Hill sheep paddocks.

Minsmere - Common Crane over Is.mere at 08:37hrs then landed in reeds towards Eastbridge. The bird was then seen south over the levels early afternoon.

Hollesley - Jack Snipe still from the pillbox + 6 Pink-footed Geese on the RSPB reserve. Black Redstart seen at Oak Hill.

Saturday 10th.

Southwold - BLACK-THROATED DIVER (fsp) north offshore at 07:57hrs. The GREY PHALAROPE continues to show on the flash in the NE corner of Town Marsh + 3 Black Redstart Gun Hill sheep paddocks.

Minsmere - GREY PHALAROPE still on south scrape.

Framlingham - Cattle Egret in meadow behind the old Potters garage.

Felixstowe - 2 Black Redstart (1 male) LBO.

Alton Water - 2 Slavonian Grebe still on the reservoir viewed from Tattingstone Wonder.

Ipswich - A Wryneck was seen and photographed in a garden in the east area of town this evening.

Capel St. Mary - Great Grey Shrike again along Old London Road / Blue Gate Lane though mobile.

Little Cornard - Jack Snipe Shalford Meadow along the southern ditch

Brecks - Cattle Egret still Cavenham Flash.

Friday 9th.

Waveney Area - The juvenile Iceland Gull was seen on sea defences off Swimming Pool Road, Lowestoft and again over Gunton. Male Black Redstart Heritage Green Kessingland.

Benacre - Black Redstart by the sluice.

Southwold - The GREY PHALAROPE was again on the flash on the NE corner of Town Marsh, near-by Black Redstart still in paddocks at the start of Ferry Road. (photo Brian Small)

Reydon - The adult TAIGA BEAN GOOSE (of dubious origin) remains in the complany of the Greylag Geese at Hen Reed-beds + Hen Harrier noted

Thursday 8th.

Covehithe - 6 Velvet Scoter south offshore late morning.

Southwold - GREY PHALAROPE present on Town Marsh flash at midday at least

Reydon - TAIGA BEAN GOOSE still Hen Reedbeds.

Minsmere - GREY PHALAROPE still on south scrape + 2 Garganey, Little Gull & Yellow Wagtail noted.

Felixstowe - Black Redstart at LBO.

Trimley Marshes - WHITE-TAILED EAGLE south over the SWT reserve at 11:15hrs, also Jack Snipe seen at the retreat and Little Gull on Loompit Lake.

Ipswich - A Swift was seen over the eastern edge of town

Alton Water - 2 Slavonian Grebe (fsp) viewable from the hides at Tattingstone Wonder + Nightingale reported.

Brecks - Lesser-spotted Woodpecker still west of the metal bridge at Santon Downham.

Wednesday 7th.

Southwold - Black Redstart still in the horse paddocks at Gun Hill + 3 LRP in the NE corner of Town Marsh.

Reydon - Adult TAIGA BEAN GOOSE still Hen Reed-beds by Octagonal hide.

Dunwich - 3 Common Crane south at 13:41hrs. A male Common Redstart seen along the fence-line on the south side of Mount Pleasant Farm

Minsmere - A GREY PHALAROPE was seen on south scrape early morning and remained throughout the day, also 2 LRP, 2 drake Garganey & Little Gull noted. 3 Common Crane south over the reserve at 13:52hrs.

North Warren - Great Egret on south marsh.

Hollesley - Jack Snipe, LRP and Yellow Wagtail noted at Hollesley Marshes.

Lakenheath - The un-ringed WHITE STORK was seen in flight over Lakenheath Fen at 10:00hrs and was later relocated at Grime Fen at Newman's Drove (photo Barry Woodhouse) + 7 Garganey (5 drake) on the RSPB reserve. WHITE-TAILED EGALE reported over Joist Fen.

Brecks - 2 Lesser-spotted Woodpecker remain west of the metal bridge at Santon Downham. The Cattle Egret continues to show on Cavenham Heath.

Tuesday 6th.

Waveney Area - WHITE-TAILED EAGLE south over North Denes at 09:2hrs.The juvenile Iceland Gull was again seen over Gunton early evening.

Reydon - The adult TAIGA BEAN GOOSE remains at Hen Reedbeds SWT

Minsmere - 3 Garganey on west scrape.

Snape - Cattle Egret still in the vicinity of Langham bridge.

Felixstowe - Black Redstart still at LBO.

Needham Market - Great Egret still at Pipps Ford.

Dalham - Osprey NE over the village at 16:50hrs

Brecks - Cattle Egret still on Cavenham Heath by the flash.

Lakenheath - WHITE STORK again in fields 2mls WNW of Lakenheath still in field west of Poultry Road at TL.681.838. 4 Garganey, Cuckoo and Common Crane noted on the RSPB reserve.

Monday 5th.

Waveney Area - Black Redstart still Kessingland sluice.

Snape - Cattle Egret still present and showing well from Langham bridge in field with cattle.

Hollesley - Jack Snipe again from the river wall viewed from the concrete pillbox + singletons of Pink-footed and White-fronted Geese.

Capel St. Mary - Great Grey Shrike again along Old London Road though mobile. Please do not park in the passing places.

Stowmarket - Immature WHITE-TAILED EAGLE west over Boyton Hall Farm Combs at 08:17hrs.

Brecks - Cattle Egret still on Cavenham Heath.

Sunday 4th.

Waveney Area - WHITE-TAILED EGALE over Petos Marsh Carlton Marshes at 13:19-13:28hrs, also 4 Garganey (2 drake) by north hide. 6+ Black Redstart Kessingland sluice

Waveney Area - 4 Garganey (2 drakes) at Carlton Marshes on Petos Marsh + 3 LRP & 2 Great Egret and a Water Pipit on Share Marsh. Iceland Gull seen again over Gunton this evening.

Reydon - The adult TAIGA BEAN GOOSE remains at Hen Reedbeds amongst the Greylag Geese flock + Water Pipit briefly.

Minsmere - 2 drake Garganey on west scrape + Little Gull still on east scrape.

North Warren - 3 Goosander (1 drake) + Merlin on south marsh.

Snape - Cattle Egret again amongst cattle viewable from Langham bridge

Sudbourne - The juvenile ROUGH-LEGGED BUZZARD was again present on Sudbourne Marshes between Crag Farm and the seawall + Great Egret.

Hollesley - Jack Snipe Hollesley Marshes on the scrape seen along the island closest to the bunker along the river wall.
