Waveney Area - 7 Shorelark Kessingland Beach by the shore pools below The Hollies steps at 1500hrs. Glossy Ibis, 3 Garganey + 3 Ring Ouzel still at Carlton Marshes SWT

Southwold - Wood Sand still on Buss Creek flash + 4 Ring Ouzel (1 male) in fields to the west.

Walberswick - 2 Common Crane at Westwood Marshes.

Westleton - 4 Ring Ouzel on the heath early morning.

Minsmere - Glossy Ibis still on south levels + 3 Ring Ouzel south of the sluice and a further Ring Ouzel along the Eastbridge - Sluice footpath.

Aldringham - Raven W over the village at 1325hrs. 

Hollesley - 2 Wood Sand Hollesley Marshes though mobile + 3 Spoonbill this evening.

Felixstowe - Male Ring Ouzel still present on the common at LBO.

Alton Water - Summer plumage Slavonian Grebe still on the reservoir opposite Tattingstone Place. 

Haughley - Ring Ouzel at Haughley Green in private grounds.

Friday 29th.

Waveney Area - Black Tern still on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes this morning though mobile.

Southwold - Wood Sand on the flash + 2 Ring Ouzel still present in fields to the west. Arctic Skua N offshore.

Minsmere - Glossy Ibis still on West scrape, also 3+ Ring Ouzel between the sluice and Sizewell this morning & 2 Raven & 6 Hobby seen from Island Mere.

Sizewell - 3 Black Redstart adjacent to the power station.

Felixstowe - The male Ring Ouzel continues to show well on the southern end of the common  + Black Redstart & Purple Sandpiper (photo c/o Will Brame).

Chelmodiston - 2 Ring Ouzels along Lings Lane.

Great Livermere - 2 Arctic Tern at Livermere Lake.

Lakenheath - 3 Garganey still Lakenheath Fen this morning.

Thursday 28th.

Waveney Area - Single Black Tern on Peto's Marsh from North Hide at Carlton Marsh SWT.

Blyth Estuary - A HOOPOE was seen late morning at Hen Reedbeds behind the Les Tarver hide then flew north, also Ring Ouzel & Glaucous Gull noted.

Walberswick - 2 Ring Ouzel this evening between Tinkers House and Tinkers Barn

Minsmere - 2 Glossy Ibis viewable from North Hide this morning + 2 Ring Ouzel still along the coastal footpath south of the sluice and Osprey over Island Mere at 1315hrs.

Felixstowe - Male Ring Ouzel still present at LBO at the southern end of the common

Wednesday 27th.

Waveney Area - Male Hen Harrier noted at Somerleyton. 3 Ring Ouzel in brambles near the look hide Carlton Marshes.

Southwold - Black Redstart noted by the boating lake + 3 Arctic Tern N offshore.

Felixstowe - Male Ring Ouzel still at the southern end of the common.

Lackford - 2 Arctic Tern over the sailing lake late morning then flew N

Lakenheath - 2 Wood Sands at Lakenheath Fen RSPB

Tuesday 26th.

Waveney Area - PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER again on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes + 2 Garganey & 2 Ring Ouzel in trees by the visitor centre this evening.

Blythburgh - 3 Spoonbill seen circling high north over the estuary + 2 Spotted Redshank

Minsmere - Glossy Ibis still present on the scrape viewable from North hide + 3 Spoonbill north.

North Warren - Ring Ouzel on North Marsh + Osprey north mod afternoon

Alde Estuary - Highlights from around the estuary included 2 Ring Ouzel at Iken, Curlew Sand at Hazelwood Marshes + Grasshopper Warbler on Town Marshes.

Woodbridge - Male Ring Ouzel at the eastern end of the disused airfield viewed from the cottage.

Felixstowe - Ring Ouzel still at the southern end of the common at LBO.

Trimley - Adult Little Gull at Loompit Lake.

Alton Water - Slavonian Grebe still opposite Tattingstone Place

Norton - A Wryneck was seen at Grove Farm 200 yards west of the junction of footpath from pub/permissive path in apple tree by 5 bar metal gate 1030 - 1105hrs.

Cavenham - A WHITE STORK was seen south over the heath at c1500hrs.

Huntingfield - Long-eared Owl flushed by corvids this afternoon.

Monday 25th.

Waveney Area - The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was again seen at Carlton Marshes this morning + 4 Ring Ouzel 0n the SWT reserve.

Benacre - Ring Ouzel west of the air raid shelter west of the track leading to Beach Farm.

Cove Bottom - Male Ring Ouzel in field next to Brick Kiln Farm.

Southwold - Ring Ouzel still present west of the flash.

Westleton - 2 Raven north over the heath at 1615hrs.

Minsmere - Today was the reserve's 75th birthday. Highlight's on the reserve included a mobile Glossy Ibis, 2 Ring Ouzel and Great Egret.

Hollesley - Highlights from Hollesley Marshes included Curlew Sand and immature Merlin.

Deben Estuary - RED-RUMPED SWALLOW was again reported this evening (1730hrs) at Ramsholt Lodge Marshes (photo c/o Eddie Marsh taken 0n 24 April) + Spoonbill. Short-eared Owl seen at Martlesham Creek this morning.

Woodbridge - 2 Raven west over Bredfield Road at 1655hrs.

Felixstowe - Ring Ouzel still present at LBO + 2 Black Redstart.

Alton Water - Slavonian Grebe still opposite Tattingstone Place.

Sunday 24th.

Waveney Area - The adult PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER made another appearance on the SWT reserve at Carlton Marshes today.

Minsmere - The adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS was again present on south levels, also noted on the reserve was the Glossy Ibis (North Hide), male Ring Ouzel (along coastal path south of the sluice), 4 Spoonbill (north over Is.mere) and 2 Common Crane (SW over Whin Hill).

Aldringham - Drake Greater Scaup still on the irrigation reservoir.

Hollesley - Curlew Sand at Hollesley Marshes.

Deben Estuary - A RED-RUMPED SWALLOW was found over Ramsholt Lodge Marsh at 1345hrs and remained until early evening at least.

Felixstowe - The male Ring Ouzel was again present on the southern end of the common for 2nd day.

Wherstead - Male Ring Ouzel in field just south SE of Belstead village then flew towards Blacksmiths Corner.

WHITE STORK - A ringed individual probably from the Kneep reintroduction scheme was noted from a number of locations today. The bird was initially seen from Heveningham heading East towards the coast at 0830hrs. Subsequent sightings where then forth-coming from Blyth Estuary (0930), Reydon (0946), Frostenden (0952), Benacre (1006), Kessingland 1010), Oulton Broad (1038), Corton (1102), Oulton Broad (1123 - 1211) and last noted north over Peto's Marsh, Carlton Marshes gaining height and heading towards Blundeston at 12:53hrs.

Saturday 23rd.

Waveney Area - PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER continues to show at Carlton Marshes + Glossy Ibis & up to 5 Garganey present. Ring Ouzel still at Kessingland Sluice

Minsmere - 2 Little Terns reported (first of the year)

North Warren - Spoonbill on South Marsh then flew north at 0753hrs.

Alton Water - Slavonian Grebe still off Tattingstone Place + 3 Corn Bunting (singing) by Crag Hill Covert.

Friday 22nd.

Waveney Area - PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER still at Carlton Marshes + Glossy Ibis & Little Gull present. 2 Turtle Dove were noted at Hulver Street near Sandy Lane.

Benacre - Male Ring Ouzel just south of the sluice.

Walberswick - Glossy Ibis still in field by the Bailey Bridge

Felixstowe - Tree Pipit along the Tomline Wall by the pond/dump area.

Alton Water - Slavonian Grebe still opposite Tattingstone Place + 2 Arctic Tern at 1540hrs

Huntingfield- The first Common Swift of the year was seen over the village at 0945hrs today

Thursday 21st.

Waveney Area - The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was once again present in the SW corner of Peto's Marsh Carlton Marsh SWT + Glossy Ibis, Garganey and Jack Snipe on the reserve.

Southwold - 2 Ring Ouzel still in fields just west of the flash.

Reydon - 2 Common Crane over the village then south at 1215hrs.

Walberswick - Glossy Ibis still in fields by the Bailey Bridge

Minsmere - Adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS still present on the levels though distant, also Glossy Ibis on West Scrape.

Bawdsey - A BLACK KITE was seen to come in off at East Lane at 0720hrs and continued west on it's journey.

Alton Water - Slavonian Grebe still off Tattingstone Place.

Wednesday 20th.

Waveney Area - The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER still present on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes though generally elusive, also Glossy Ibis and Garganey present.

Benacre - A SIBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF was present in the copse just east of Beach Farm mid morning.

Reydon - 2 Common Crane north over the village at 0848hrs.

Southwold - 2 Ring Ouzel again in fields west of the flash.

Walberswick - Male Ring Ouzel by Tinkers Barn.

Dunwich - Male Ring Ouzel on the heath early afternoon.

Minsmere - Adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS still on south levels though distant + Glossy Ibis.

Felixstowe - Male Ring Ouzel present on the Ferry golf course.

Alton Water - A RED-RUMPED SWALLOW was seen over the campsite and play area at 0740hrs and remained in the area until 0925hrs when off SE towards Stutton Ness when lost to view + 2 Slavonian Grebe still present

The first Turtle Dove of the year was reported from SE Suffolk.

Tuesday 19th.

Waveney Area - PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER again this evening with European Golden Plover on Peto's Marsh. 6 Purple Sands at Ness Point + 2 Shag roosting along North Beach.

Southwold - SIBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF in Willow Scrub along old railway line opposite the flash + Ring Ouzel in the area

Walberswick - Glossy Ibis still in fields by the Bailey Bridge + 2 Common Crane low NW over Westwood Lodge.

Minsmere - Adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS still on the levels + Glossy Ibis near the sluice.

Sizewell - Male Ring Ouzel in gorse.

Aldringham - Drake Greater Scaup on the irrigation reservoir.

Bredfield - 3 Raven over the village this morning.

Gislingham - Male Ring Ouzel still in horse paddock 100mts south of Mill Street.

Monday 18th. 

Waveney Area - PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER again on Peto's Marsh + Glossy Ibis. A rather smart male Whinchat between Lowestoft Denes Oval and Links Hill. Black Redstart just north of Kessingland Sluice.

Southwold - 2 Ring Ouzel in field just west of the flash.

Minsmere -  The adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS continues to show on the levels though mobile and rather elusive. A BLACK KITE was seen north over the North Wall at 0852hrs then shortly after circled over the sea then started to head south. The bird was then tracked at the following locations;

  • Hollesley Marshes - 1002hrs
  • Shingle Street/Alderton - 1023hrs
  • Felixstowe Ferry - 1103hrs
  • Felixstowe Grove 1106hrs
  • Landguard/Felixstowe Port - 1137hrs
  • Stutton - 1155hrs

Thorpeness - Firecrest at the OCP.

North Warren - At least 1 Ring Ouzel in fields on north marsh.

Gislingham - 7 Ring Ouzel (4 males) in paddock at Mellis west of Gislingham

Lackford - Ring Ouzel at Lackford Lakes SWT.

Sunday 17th.

Waveney Area - The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was again on Perto's Marsh Carlton Marshes + 3 Garganey.

Southwold - A Glaucous Gull was present on the harbour wall at 0818hrs + 2 Shag north offshore.

Walberswick - Glossy Ibis still on Town Marshes.

Minsmere - Adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS still on south levels.

Aldringham - 2 Raven flew over NE calling.

North Warren - 2 Ring Ouzel still on north marsh

Woodbridge - Male Ring Ouzel on the disused runway.

Deben Estuary - Raven over Methersgate

East Bergholt - Osprey NW over the village at 1400hrs

Minsmere - Adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS on the levels though distant + Black Redstart south of the sluice bushes.

Waveney Area - PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER again this evening on Peto's Marsh + Glossy Ibis & Little Gull noted.

Benacre - Black Redstart in paddock at Beach Farm.

Southwold - Ring Ouzel again in paddocks north of the pier at Easton Bavents.

Walberswick - Glossy Ibis still on marshes by the Bailey Bridge.

Minsmere - Adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS again on South Levels this evening.

North Warren - 2 male Ring Ouzel in conservation area north of the central footpath + fem Greater Scaup on the Meare.

Bawdsey - Black Redstart on sea defences at East Lane.

Thursday 14th.

Waveney Area - PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER still on Peto's Marsh. 2 Great Egret north along the coats at Lowestoft North Denes.

Benacre - Black Redstart + 2 Short-eared Owl between the broad and the sluice. and a female Ring Ouzel in the paddock at Beach Farm

Southwold - Male Ring Ouzel seen at Easton Bavents in the gorse paddock + Purple Sand on the sea defences.

Walberswick - The female Wigeon that was thought to be a problem AMERICAN, has been identified as an Eurasian Wigeon. Glossy Ibis still in fields by the Bailey Bridge.

Minsmere - The adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS remain on south levels. a Bean Goose sp was noted south over the scrape early morning and a Raven north over the car park at 0944hrs

Sizewell - Single Black Redstart noted.

North Warren - Greater Scaup on the Meare.

Needham Market - 2w Iceland Gull at Pipps Ford GP's between 1850 - 1902hrs then flew East.

Brecks - 2 Raven over Cavenham Heath early morning. Male Ring Ouzel in fields by Lackford Church

Wednesday 13th.

Waveney Area - PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER again on Peto's Marsh + Glossy Ibis & 7 Garganey on site. 2 Ring Ouzel on Lowestoft North Denes, near-by Black Redstart in the wind turbine yard

Benacre - Black Redstart just south of Beach Farm + Woodlark near the sluice.

Walberswick - Glossy Ibis in field by the Bailey Bridge.

Minsmere - The long-staying adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS continues to show on south levels, also Glossy Ibis on the konik field and Grasshopper Warbler (first reported this year) at the sluice bushes.

North Warren - Water Pipit, Blue-headed Wagtail & Great Egret on south marsh.

Hollesley - 14 Common Crossbill seen on Upper Hollesley Common

Alton Water - Slavonian Grebe seen fro the hide.

Ipswich - Lesser Whitethroat (first of the year) seen in Belstead Brook Park.


General: There was a good influx of common migrants seen today with Nightingale, Willow Warbler, Sedge Warbler and Lesser Whitethroat being reported.

Tuesday 12th.

Waveney Area - The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was again noted on Peto's Marsh + 8 Garganey, Glossy Ibis, Wheatear & Yellow Wagtail noted.

Minsmere - Adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS still on south levels.

Hollesley - 1w Caspian Gull on the scrape at Holesley Marshes +  Whimbrel, also Black Redstart around the buildings by the car park.

Bawdsey - The first Common Whitethroat of the year was noted at East Lane + 2 Whimbrel north.

Deben Estuary - Black Redstart on buildings at Felixstowe Ferry. Reed Warbler first of the year present along Martlesham Creek.

Alton Water - Ring Ouzel seen by the camp site this morning.

Monday 11th.

Waveney Area - The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was on Peto's Marsh until 0810hrs when flew west with Golden Plover however the bird returned this tp Peto's Marsh this evening (photo c/o Chris Courtney), also Glossy Ibis & 2 Garganey present.

Southwold - 2 Little Gull north offshore.

Walberswick - No sign of the probable female AMERICAN WIGEON on pools west of the Bailey bridge this morning, nearby the Glossy Ibis continues to show on Town Marsh.

Westleton - The first Nightingale of the spring was heard singing this morning near the Gun Club.

Minsmere - Ad LESSER YELLOWLEGS still on south levels + Glossy Ibis, the Snow Bunting remains on the beach.

Eastbridge - Male Merlin seen at Dove Hill plantation at 1320hrs then flew west.

Thorpeness - Female Black Redstart by cottages south of the allotments at the Old Caravan Park.

North Warren - 3 EWFG on south marsh.

Alton Water - 1+ Slavonian Grebe still on the reservoir opposite Tattingstone Place.

Great Livermere - 3 Little Gull on Livermere Lake this afternoon.

Lakenheath - Ring Ouzel at Lakeneheath Fen RSPB by the visitor centre before flying towards the car park + 1w Little Gull.

Sunday 10th.

Waveney Area - The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was again present on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes at 0725hrs then flew high West at 0844hrs, the bird returned with the Golden Plover flock at 1706hrs, also noted on the SWT reserve; Glossy Ibis & 5 Garganey. Shorelark still just north of Kessingland sluice this morning.

Walberswick - A probable female AMERICAN WIGEON was noted on flood West of the Bailey Bridge this afternoon + Glossy Ibis

Minsmere - Adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS still on south levels viewed distantly from the Chapel + Glossy Ibis. Snow Bunting still on the beach. 2 Common Crane over the reserve early morning then flew West & Black Redstart in the dunes.

Aldringham - 2 Raven flew SW calling.

Bawdsey - 2 Black Redstart in gardens at East Lane.

Felixstowe - 2 Black Redstart at LBO.

Trimley Marshes - 4 Garganey on the SWT reserve.

Alton Water - 2 Slavonian Grebe still opposite Tattingstone Place.

Saturday 9th.

Waveney Area - The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was again present this evening on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes with European Golden Plover, also Spoonbill flew over at 0635hrs then followed the Waveney towards Beccles + 4 Garganey (2 drake) from bund between Turnpike & North Hides.

Walberswick - Glossy Ibis on marshes just west of the Bailey bridge this evening.

Minsmere - Adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS still on south levels viewed from the chapel. Glossy Ibis from the Eastbridge footpath + Snow Bunting still on the beach. 2 Garganey (1 drake) from North Hide.

North Warren - Spoonbill on south marsh + 1w Caspian Gull.

Boyton - Drake Garganey Boyton Marshes viewed from river wall.

Hollesley - 3 EWFG Hollesley Marshes.

Friday 8th.

Waveney Area - 2 Spoonbill NNW over Belle Vue Park Lowestoft at 0640hrs. Glossy Ibis still on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes + 2 Garganey (1 drake) & 2 EWFG. Shorelark noted 100 yards north of Kessingland sluice.

Minsmere - Adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS again on south levels + Glossy Ibis on the konik field & confiding Snow Bunting still on the beach. Jack Snipe still present and showing in front of North Hide

North Warren - Spotted Redshank on south marsh + female Greater Scaup & Goosander.

Boyton - Drake Garganey at Boyton Marshes.

Thursday 7th.

Walberswick - Glossy Ibis still on Town Marshes west of the harbour car park.

Minsmere - The adult LESSER YELLOWLEGS made another appearance today on south levels, also Jack Snipe, Snow Bunting and 2 Garganey (1 drake) around the reserve.

Wednesday 6th.

Waveney Area - No sign of the Pacific Golden Plover today at Carlton Marshes, however, highlights from around the SWT reserve included a 1st summer male GOSHWAK was seen over Peto's Marsh, Glossy Ibis, 3 drake Garganey and a Water Pipit.

Walberswick - The long-staying Glossy Ibis continues to show on Town Marshes.

Minsmere - Jack Snipe again from North Hide.

Felixstowe - The first Common Redstart of the spring was today seen at LBO, also 2 Willow Warbler & 3 Wheatear noted. Ring-necked Parakeet seen over the Ferry

Alton Water - 2 Slavonian Grebe remain on the reservoir opposite Tattingstone Place.

Tuesday 5th.

Waveney Area - The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was again at Carlton Marshes on Peto's Marsh at 1833hrs + Glossy Ibis & drake Garganey present.

Minsmere - Glossy Ibis on the konik field, Jack Snipe from North Hide & 2 Whooper Swan still on Island Mere.

Deben Estuary - Water Pipit Lodge Marsh Ramsholt. + Spotted Redshank on the saltings.

Felixstowe - A male SERIN was trapped, ringed and released at LBO at 1130hrs (photo c/o Will Btame)

Monday 4th.

Waveney Area - The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER put in another appearance on Peto's Marsh, Carlton Marshes shortly after 1800hrs, also Glossy Ibis & 3 Garganey present.

Southwold - 2 Purple Sands on sea defences north of the pier.

Walberswick - Glossy Ibis still on Town Marshes + 3 drake Garganey on the pony pool at Dingle Marshes.

Minsmere - Snow Bunting still along the beach + 4 Sandwich Tern on south scrape.

Deben Estuary - Common Tern off Kyson Point this evening.

Alton Water - 2 Slavonian Grebe still on the reservoir opposite Tattingstone Place.

Great Liveremere - Juvenile Iceland Gull again on Livermere Lake late afternoon.

Sunday 3rd.

Waveney Area - A PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER dropped in on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes with European Golden Plover at 1746hrs (photo c/o Andrew Easton), also SIBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF in willow scrub between Tower Hide and the gate to Spratts Water, Glossy Ibis still present, LRP + 10 Garganey (7 drakes). 3 Spoonbill south over Lowestoft at 0850hrs.

Minsmere - Highlights from around the reserve today included; Glossy Ibis on south levels + fem Black Redstart by the Old Chapel. 2 Smew from the mound, also Black Redstart by the Sand Martin bank, Jack Snipe from North Hide, 2 Whooper Swan on Island Mere & Snow Bunting on the beach.

Sizewell - Black Redstart around the boats.

Aldringham - Ringtail Hen Harrier north over Aldringham Walks.

Thorpeness - 2 Black Redstart at the sewage works.

North Warren - 2 Spoonbill on south marsh + Black Redstart this morning.

Shingle Street - Water Pipit by the bridge

Little Stonham - The first Hobby of the spring was seen at 1443hrs.

Lakenheath - 2 Water Pipit at Lakenheath Fen RSPB.

Saturday 2nd.

Waveney Area - Glossy Ibis again on Peto's Marsh + 3 Garganey.  Common Crane over Herringsfleet at 0951hrs. 3 Shag roosting on groynes along Lowestoft North Beach. Black Redstart Kessingland sluice.

Southwold - Common Crane flew north from Town Marsh at 0811hrs and continued north along the coast.

Blythburgh - 3+ summer plumaged Water Pipits at Hen Reedbeds.

Walberswick - Glossy Ibis still on Town Marshes.
