Sunday 28th.

Waveney Area - The 14 Whooper Swan continue to show on Barsham Marshes, though water levels are dropping quite rapidly and birds likely to move on soon. Black Redstart Heritage Green Kessingland.

Blythburgh - The 3cy WHITE-TAILED EAGLE that was seen over Westleton (see below) relocated over the Blyth Estuary at 11:33hrs and remained in the area until 13:08hrs when last seen heading NW over Hen Reddbeds (photo Brian Small).

Westleton 3cy WHITE-TAILED EAGLE seen over the north end of Westleton Heath at 10:47hrs + Short-eared Owl.

Brecks - The Cattle Egret continues to show from Temple bridge (flash) on Cavenham Heath. 3 Lesser-spotted Woodpeckers again Santon Downham approx. 3/4 mile west of the metal bridge.

Saturday 27th.

Waveney Area - 14 Whooper Swan remain Barsham Marsh. Purple Sand Ness Point. 10 Snow Bunting still on the beach at Kessingland. The first Sand Martin of the year was noted over Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes this afternoon.

Covehithe - Drake Long-tailed Duck still on the broad.

Blyth Estuary - Immature WHITE-TAILED EAGLE seen circling high south over the estuary at 14:17hrs and photographed over hear-by Hinton Grange (Andrew Moon). Hen Harrier over the estuary at 10:45hrs.

Minsmere - Redhead Smew still present + 4 Bewicks & 3 Whooper Swan on the reserve. Female Greater Scaup still Island Mere.

North Warren - 3 Spoonbill + Great Egret on south marsh + Red Kite NE over the fen at 11:40hrs.

Havergate - Spoonbill on the RSPB reserve.

Hollesley - 6 PARROT CROSSBILL reported from Upper Hollesley Common this afternoon + Spoonbill Hollesley Marsh RSPB

Wantisden - Ad female HOODED MERGANSER still Staverton Polls then flew SW.

Brecks - Cattle Egret again Cavenham Heath at the the west end of the flash. 3 Lesser-spotted Woodpecker West of the bridge at Santon Downham.

Friday 26th.

Waveney Area - Juvenile Iceland Gull seen on roof tops in Gunton village mid afternoon. 14 Whooper Swan still Barsham Marshes.

Benacre - Drake Greater Scaup on the broad.

Covehithe - Drake Long-tailed Duck still on the broad.

Reydon - 2 Red Kite over Hen Reedbeds.

Minsmere - 2 Great Egret on Island Mere + 4 Bewicks Swan on south scrape.

North Warren - 2 Great Egret on south marsh.

Mendham - Red Kite over the village.

Alde Estuary - Spotted Redshank on the river at Snape + Great Egret.

Hollesley - Water Pipit Hollesley Marsh RSPB

Deben Estuary - Great Egret Ramsholt grazing marsh + adult BLACK BRANT on the river amongst c310 Dark-bellied Brent Geese.

Felixstowe - Purple Sandpiper still on the groynes off the butts

Ipswich - Red Kite seen over the waterfront and Landseer Park

Bramford - 3 possible Spoonbill seen very distantly over after Mill Lane viewed from Suffolk Water Park.

Stowmarket - Great Egret still Muntons (Roots & Shoots) viewed from the Gipping valley path at 11:00hrs.

Brecks - Immature WHITE-TAILED EAGLE Barton Mills flew east over A11/A1065 roundabout at 09:40hrs, near-by 3+ Great Egrets Tuddenham Fen. 3 Lesser-spotted Woodpecker Santon Donham 3/4 ml west of the metal bridge

Thursday 25th.

Benacre - Drake Greater Scaup on the broad (2nd day)

Covehithe - Long-staying drake Long-tailed Duck continues to show on the broad.

Felixstowe - Adult male Black Redstart by the fisherman's compound near LBO + Purple Sand along The Butts (photo Will Brame).

Freston - Red Kite over fields opposite The Boot

Alton Water - Red Kite seen over the reservoir near the sub-station, near-by 2 Corn Bunting along Lings Lane.

Creeting - Great Egret still on grassland behind Creeting Hall.

Wednesday 24th.

Waveney Area - 14 Whooper Swan still Barsham Marshes.

Minsmere - Female Greater Scaup on Island Mere + redhead Smew East scrape.

Eastbridge - Ring-tail Hen Harrier seen from the road by the Eels Foot Inn at 07:00hrs and probably the same bird seen again late morning.

Stowmarket - 2 Great Egrets flew down the Gipping valley this evening.

Lackford - Cattle Egret showing well on Lackford flash viewable along Lackford - Cavenham Rd early afternoon (photo Barry Woodhouse).

Tuddenham - 2 Great Egret at Tuddenham Fen at 09:30hrs

Tuesday 23rd.

Waveney Area - 14 Whooper Swan still Barsham Marshes + Red Kite. Slavonian Grebe still viewable from Breydon south wall opposite the wind pump. 9 Snow Bunting still on the beach at Kessingland.

Reydon - 2 Common Crane seen low over the village at 08:35hrs heading towards the Blyth Estuary.

Middleton - Ring-tail Hen Harrier SW of the village over fields early afternoon.

North Warren - 2 Spoonbill seen over north marsh then landed on south marsh + 2 Great Egret.

Aldeburgh - 5 Spoonbill on Town Marshes.

Wantisden - The HOODED MERGANSER of unknown origin continues to show on Wantisden pools

Deben Estuary - Great Egret still Ramsholt Marsh below the church.

Stowmarket - 4 Raven at Boyton Hall Combs Ford.

Haverhill - Great Egret at West Town Park (Meldham Washlands).

Monday 22nd.

Waveney Area - 1st inter Iceland Gull on Morrison's roof at North Quay retail park this morning. 9 Snow Bunting still on the beach at Kessingland. 14 Whooper Swan still Barsham Marshes + Spotted Redshank & Great Egret noted. 14 Hawfinch Sotterely Park west of the church.

Thorpeness - 2 Goosander on the Meare seen from the old railway line.

Deben Estuary - Great Egret on Ramsholt Lodge Marsh.

Trimley Marshes - Tundra Bean Goose Trimley Marsh SWT + 15 EWFG.

Woolpit - Red Kite east over the village at 11:00hrs.

Stowmarket - Great Egret still at Muntons, near-by 2 Red Kite north over Combs Ford at 13:30hrs.

Little Cornard - Great Egret and 4 Goosander Shalford Meare.

Sunday 21st.

Waveney Area - 11 Snow Bunting by the shorepools at Kessingland + Little Gull. 2 Shag in Lake Lothing.

Walberswick - 2 adult Common Crane on Tinkers Marsh at dusk.

North Warren - 2 Great Egret on south marsh.

Aldeburgh - c500 EWFG on Town Marshes.

Hollesley - Spotted Redshank Hollesley Marsh + 3 Ruff. 4 Common Crossbill Upper Hollesley Common.

Ipswich - 3 Shag (2 juv + 1 adult) present in the wet dock (photo Gi Gireco). Great Egret over Stoke Park heading towards Bourne Bridge at 17:05hrs.

Barham - c70 Common Crossbill seen near Barham saw mill

Stowmarket - Great Egret still Muntons just over the railway track, also near to Badley Mill.

Lackford - Cattle Egret seen briefly by Lackford Flash at 13:20hrs though mobile.

Little Cornard - Great Egret at Shalford Meadows.

Haverhill - Great Egret in fields at Hanchett Hall.

Saturday 20th.

Waveney Area - Juvenile Iceland Gull again seen over Sutherland Drive/Foxburrow Wood Gunton early afternoon. 14 Whooper Swan still Barsham Marshes. 9 Crossbill just south of Ellough church this morning.

Hinton - 7 Bewicks Swan still SW of the Five-ways junction.

Dunwich - 2 Water Pipits on cleared reeds near Dingle Hills this morning. 8 Twite still amongst the Linnet flock north of Dunwich & 3 Great Egrets in the area.

Minsmere - Great Egret on Island Mere.

Little Cornard - 2 Great Egrets seen by the river opposite Henry Street then flushed and flew towards the southern end of Henry Meadows.

Friday 19th.

Waveney Area - Male Black Redstart still in Kessingland village + 10 Snow Bunting still near-by on the beach. 14 Whooper Swan remain on Barsham Marshes.

Covehithe - Drake Long-tailed Duck still on the broad. + Water Pipit.

Hinton - 7 Bewicks Swan (6 adults) NW of Dunwich Forest still east of Hinton off B1125 just SW of Five-ways junction.

Minsmere - Red-necked Grebe, redhead Smew, 2 Whooper Swan, 2 Bewicks Swan and 6 Goosander around the reserve.

Westleton - 4 Bewicks Swan west over the village prior to 07:00hrs.

Deben Estuary - Adult BLACK BRANT still from Kirton Marshes + 2 PBBG & c 1500 Brent Geese, also Great Egret in water meadow by Kirton sluice. Over-wintering Ruff still being seen along Martlesham Creek.

Orwell Estuary - Great Egret in fields by Suffolk Food Hall + over-wintering Common Sandpiper by Bourne Bridge.

Ipswich - 2 Shag present in the wet dock.

Thursday 18th.

Waveney Area - 14 Whooper Swan still 2mls WNW of Beccles on Barsham Marshes. Male Black Redstart seen in Kessingland village.

Wenhaston - Great Egret again on the west side of Blyford bridge.

Minsmere - Red-necked Grebe still on south scrape + redhead Smew, 2 1w Caspian Gull, 2 Whooper Swan and 5 Bewicks Swan.

Hollesley - 7 Tundra Bean Geese flew over the village early afternoon towards the RSPB reserve.

Ipswich - Shag still in the wet dock just off Anglo Norden building

Wednesday 17th.

Waveney Area - Juvenile Iceland Gull seen over Gunton at 10:20hrs.

Hinton - 7 Bewick's Swan still near Hinton Grange near five-waus junction (photo Andrew Moon) + Great Egret in the Blyth valley near Blyford bridge.

Minsmere - The Red-necked Grebe remains on south scrape viewable from the public screen + redhead Smew, adult Caspian Gull & 9 Goosander noted.

Boyton - 3 Pink-footed Geese Boyton Marshes.

Ipswich - Great Egret still present and showing well at Belstaed Brook Park at Bobbits and Ostrich Meadows.

Witnesham - A Merlin seen hunting fields between Witnesgam and Swilland at 07:30hrs.

Stowmarket - Great Egret still at Muntons in flooded meadow.

Tuesday 16th.

Waveney Area - 7 Purple Sands at Ness Point.

Benacre - Black-necked Grebe on the sea just north of the sluice drifting north + 2 Little Gull.

Covehithe - Drake Long-tailed Duck still on the broad.

Hinton - 7 Bewicks Swan (6 ad + 1 juv) just south west of five-ways junction along the Blythburgh - Westleton Rd.

Sutton - 12 Common Crossbill on Sutton Common (photo John Richardson).

Stour Estuary - Great Egret Cattawade Marshes.

Ipswich - Great Egret still present in Belstead Brook Park today, favouring the  main reedbed. Shag still on the wet dock.

Orwell Estuary - 2 Shag along the strand.

Stowmarket - Great Egret feeding on meadow at Muntons in front of Rookery Wood.

Little Cornard - Great Egret present on Shalford Meadow

Monday 15th.

Waveney Area - 21 (twenty-one) Hawfinch seen in Sotterley Park. 9 EWFG still just south of Homersfield SW of Mendham Lane viewed from slope near church. 14 Whooper Swan still Barsham Marshes + Great Egret.

Southwold - Amongst the many hundreds of Common Gulls offshore, a 2w Little Gull, 1w Caspian Gull, 1w Y L Gull & 3 adult Med Gulls.

Wenhaston - 3 Goosander NW over the village.

Boyton - 3 Tundra Bean Geese Boyton Marsh RSPB.

Hollesley - c50 EWFG still Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Deben Estuary - Adult BLACK BRANT still present at Kirton + 2 Pale-bellied Brent Geese and c1200 Dark-bellied Brent Geese.

Ipswich - Great Egret still present in Bobbits Lane Meadows LNR favouring reedbed between Ostrich Meadow and Bourne Park

Sunday 14th.

Waveney Area - Jack Snipe seen at Beccles common and Oulton Marshes. 2 adult Caspian Gull Ness Point pools. 9 EWFG still just south of Homersfield by River Waveney SW of Mendham Lane from from slope near church.

Southwold - A 1st winter Little Gull was present amongst the many hundreds of Common Gulls by the pier this morning (photo Brian Small).

Minsmere - Redhead Smew still on south scrape + probable Caspian x YLG hybrid.

Hollesley - 7 Tundra Bean Geese still Hollesley Marsh RSPB though mobile + 64 EWFG & Short-eared Owl noted.

Deben Estuary - Adult BLACK BRANT seen on fields at Kirton + 2 Pale-bellied Brent Geese and c1200 Dark-bellied Brent Geese.

Felixstowe - Velvet Scoter noted offshore from LBO.

Ipswich - A Great Egret was seen at Bobbits Lane Meadows LNR today (photo David Walsh). A Shag in the waterfront on jetty opposite Anglo Norden timber yard.

Creeting St. Peter - Great Egret seen along the Gipping Valley by Creeting Hall.

Hadleigh - A Great Grey Shrike was seen at the southern end of Raydon airfield perched in hdegerow bordering Wenham Rd.

Stour Estuary - Spotted Redshank feeding along the river at Long Melford at TL.859.451.

Saturday 13th.

Waveney Area - 14 Whooper Swan still on Barsham Marshes. 10 Snow Bunting on the beach at Kessingland.

Minsmere - 4 Whooper and 4 Bewicks Swan still on the reserve.

Hollesley - 6 Tundra Bean Geese still Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Ixworth - Ring Ouzel rptd ESE of Ixworth at Long Thurlow in garden late afternoon.

Several Woodcock being reported, mainly from coastal locations.

Friday 12th.

Deben Estuary - Jack Snipe seen on the flooded horse meadow at Martlesham Creek.

Felixstowe - 2 Woodcock at LBO (1 in off and 1 in the compound).

Little Cornard - Spotted Redshank Shalford Meadow.

Brecks - A Cattle Egret was seen in fields with 4 horses at 12:40hrs viewable from A1101 between West Stow and Icklingham.

Thursday 11th.

Waveney Area - 14 Whooper Swan remain on Barsham Marshes. 12 EWFG just south of Homersfield by River Waveney off Mendham Lane

Walberswick - Short-eared Owl seen early morning.

Hinton - 4 Bewicks Swan remain on the pig fields

Minsmere - Rig-tail Hen Harrier seen again along the approach road to the reserve + 4 Whooper Swan & 2 Goosander on Island Mere.

Aldeburgh - 3w Caspian Gull seen along the shoreline + 9+ Velvet Scoter offshore.

Alde Estuary - Jack Snipe seen feeding along the tideline with Dunlin by Brick Dock.

Felixstowe - Razorbill sat on the sea off the point at LBO.

Combs Ford - 2 Raven at Boyton Hall Farm

Wednesday 10th.

Minsmere - Both the Red-necked Grebe and redhead Smew remain on the reserve.

Hollesley - 6 Tundra Bean Geese at Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Ipswich - Shag seen again on the waterfront.

Sudbury - Spotted Redshank on Fullingpit Meadow.

Tuesday 9th.

Waveney Area - 14 Whooper Swan + Great Egret still Barsham Marshes.

Covehithe - Drake Long-tailed Duck still on the broad at the northern end.

Westleton - 2 Red Kite over the village early morning.

Deben Estuary - 4 Tundra Bean Geese + 11 EWFG on fields at Felixstowe Ferry.

Felistowe - 2 Velvet Scoter south off LBO.

Monday 8th.

Hollesley - 35 EWFG at Hollesley Marshes RSPB.

Ipswich - A Yellow-browed Warbler was seen and photographed in the town within a private garden this afternoon.

Stour Estuary -  A 1st winter Little Gull was seen at Brantham this afternoon.

Several Woodcock noted today with at least 9 in the Aldeburgh being the highest count, also several cold weather movements noted of both Thrushes and Lapwing today.

Sunday 7th.

Waveney Area - Juvenile Iceland Gull was once again seen in church fields, Gunton this afternoon before flying south.

Westleton - Ring-tail Hen Harrier over the heath this morning.

North Warren - 3 Snow Bunting on the beach + Purple Sand on the sluice outfall.

Hollesley - Possible Greenland Redpoll seen on Lower Hollesley Common amongst 6 Lesser Redpoll.

Saturday 6th.

Waveney Area - Juvenile Iceland Gull again in church fields, Gunton early afternoon then flew south.

Friday 5th.

Waveney Area - 14 Whooper Swan still Barsham Marshes. Slavonian Grebe on Breydon Water viewable from the south wall by the the water pump.

Covehithe - Drake Long-tailed Duck still on the broad.

Minsmere - Red-necked Grebe + redhead Smew still on south scrape + adult Caspian Gull on east scrape.

Aldeburgh - Snow Bunting still on the beach at Slaughden.

Little Cornard - 10 EWFG Shalford Meadow on flooded meadow at the south end. 3 Goosander on Cornard Mere.

Worlington - 2 redhead Goosander on Worlington fishing pits.

Thursday 4th.

Waveney Area - 14 Whooper Swan remain at Barsham Marshes + Great Egret.

Covehithe - 1st winter Iceland Gull south offshore along the tideline.

Minsmere - Red-necked Grebe still on south scrape viewable from the public screen + redhead Smew still on the scrape.

Aldeburgh - Snow Bunting on the beach by Slaughden yacht club + 60+ EWFG on Town Marshes.

Wednesday 3rd.

Covehithe - Drake Long-tailed Duck still on the broad.

Walberswick - 4 Bewicks Swan in field behind pig fields late afternoon.

Minsmere - Red-necked Grebe and redhead Smew still on the reserve.

Boyton - 2 Tundra Bean Geese seen amongst c65 Greylag Geese on the marshes.

Felixstowe - Shag off Viewpoint at LBO this morning.

Tuesday 2nd.

Waveney Area - 14 Whooper Swan still on Barsham Marshes.

Southwold - Sub-Adult Caspian Gull on Town Marsh this afternoon (photo Brian Small).

Blythburgh - A 2nd calendar Caspian Gull was seen in the fields by the water tower.

Hinton - 4 Bewicks Swan again by Hinton crossroads.

Little Cornard - 10 Eurasian White-fronted Geese still on Shalford Marshes / Cornard Mere + 4 Goosander.


Monday 1st.

Waveney Area - 13 Whooper Swan on Barsham Marshes.

Southwold - Purple Sand on sea defences at the harbour

Minsmere - Both the Red-necked Grebe and redhead Smew remain on the reserve. Ring-tail Hen Harrier seen hunting along the approach road to the reserve  just prior to 17:00hrs.
