JULY HIGHLIGHTS

Wednesday 31st.

Benacre - 5 Curlew Sands on the broad + 11 Little Gulls.

Minsmere - Pied Flycatcher at the sluice bushes.

Alde Estuary - 13+ Wood Sands on the estuary + 2 Spoonbill.

Boyton - 9 Wood Sands at Boyton Marshes.

Felixstowe - Pied Flycatcher trapped at LBO + Common Redstart still present.

Trimley Marshes - 3 Wood Sands still at the SWT reserve.

Tuesday 30th.

Wood Sands continue to dominate the news with 53 birds being reported from the following locations;

Dunwich shore pools - 9

Minsmere - 23

Orfordness - 1

Monday 29th.

Lowestoft Area - 11 Wood Sands at Herringleet Marshes.

Benacre - 42 Little Gull counted on the broad + Curlew Sand.

Dunwich - 3 Wood Sands on the shore pools.

Minsmere - 10 Wood Sand on the scrape + Curlew Sand.

Boyton - 8+ Wood Sands at Boyton Marshes.

Hollesley - 2 Wood Sands on the scrape at Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Ipswich - The non-breeding drake Hooded Merganser sporting a yellow-ring was again seen on the River Gipping off Westend Road.

Stowmarket - 2 RAVEN over the Town at approx 13:30hrs.

Trimley Marshes - 2 Wood Sands on the winter flood on SWT reserve.

Sunday 28th.

Lowestoft Area - Up to 11 Wood Sands on Carlton Marshes though mobile.

Benacre - 26 Little Gull, 2 Black Tern, Arctic Tern + Curlew Sand were the highlights from the broad.

Covehithe - 4 Wood Sands on the broad + Little Stint.

Southwold - 18 Black Terns distantly offshore.

Minsmere - 2 Garganey (pair) were seen to come in off and land on East scrape. 3 Wood Sand, 9 Curlew Sand & 9 Spot Reds were the pick of the wader highlights.

Alde Estuary - Single Wood Sand on the estuary this morning.

Boyton - 17+ Wood Sands at Boyton Marshes.

Felixstowe - Common Redstart at LBO.

Saturday 27th.

Lowestoft Area - 6 Wood Sandpipers on the scrape at Carlton Marshes.

Minsmere - 14 Wood Sandpipers on the scrape + 2 Great Egret.

Alde Estuary - 10 Wood Sands noted today.

Felixstowe - Wood Sand in off then inland.

Trimley Marsh - Wood Sand on the SWT reserve.

Friday 26th.

Minsmere - 7 Curlew Sand on South scrape from public viewing platform + 2 Little Stint on East scrape.

Thursday 25th

Dunwich - 2 Great Egret on the shore pools early morning.

Minsmere - Highlights from around the scrape incl. 3 Little Stint, juvenile limosa Godwit and a single Wood Sand.

Boyton - 3 Sponnbill Marshes + 2 juvenile limosa Godwits.

Wednesday 24th.

Benacre - 27 Little Gull on the broad.

Minsmere - 3 Curlew Sands + 2 Little Stint on the scrape.

Alde Estuary - 2 Curlew Sands at Hazelwood Marhes.

Trimley Marshes - 2 Black Tern seen this morning.

Tuesday 23rd.

Lowestoft Area - No sign today of the adult PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER at Breydon Water.

Minsmere - Juv Garganey on the scrape.

Alde Estuary - Wood Sand noted this morning (photo Mark Cornish).

Hollesley - Wood Sand Hollesley Marshes.

Trimley Marshes - Spoonbill on the SWT reserve.

Monday 22nd.

Lowestoft Area - The adult PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER continues to show from Breydon South Wall in field c300 yards West of the pumping station with Golden Plovers.

Walberswick - Adult Common Crane on Tinkers Marsh late afternoon.

Sunday 21st.

Lowestoft Area - Adult PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER still viewable from the South wall at Breydon.

Minsmere - Curlew Sand on East scrape + Spoonbill.

Felixstowe - 2 Tree Sparrows remain at LBO.

Ipswich - A non-breeding drake Hooded Merganser was present on the River Gipping viewable Westend Road bridge by the EMG garage (4th day).

Saturday 20th.

Lowestoft Area - The adult PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER continued to show from Breydon South Wall from late morning (photo Rob Wilton).

Blyth Estuary - 2 Common Crane still on the estuary on salt marsh viewable from Hen Reed beds.

Minsmere - Purple Heron again seen to fly from the koink fields towards Island Mere at 12:50hrs.

Alde Estuary - 4 summer plumage Curlew Sands on Haelwood Marshes.

Havergate - 7 Curlew Sand on the RSPB reserve + 32 Spoonbill.

Felixstowe - 2 Tree Sparrows trapped at LBO.


Friday 19th.

Lowestoft Area - The adult PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was again viewable from the South wall at Breydon Water this evening.

Blyth Estuary - 2 Common Cranes viewable distantly from Hen Reedbeds + Spoonbill on the estuary.

Orfordness - A 2cy colour-ringed BALTIC GULL was on the NT reserve today.

Hollesley - A second adult PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER in the county was seen on the scrape at Hollesley Marshes at 09:25hrs but had soon moved on North.

Thursday 18th.

Lowestoft Area - An adult PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was present early morning by South Wall then flew of NW towards Berney Marshes at 07:25hrs, the bird returned on the low tide at 18:35hrs and remained until 19:30hrs then flew to field SW of metal wind pump.

Minsmere - Great Egret on Island Mere + 4 Little Gulls still on the scrape + 17 Spotted Redshank.

Wednesday 17th.

Minsmere - 4 Little Gull (ad + 3 1st summers) + 9 Spotted Redshank.

Tuesday 16th.

Minsmere - No sign of the Purple Heron today. 5 Spotted Redshank on the scrape.

Felixstowe - Black Redstart briefly at LBO.

Trimley Marshes - Great Egret briefly on the reservoir + 3 Spotted Redshank on the reserve.

Monday 15th.

Minsmere - A Purple Heron was seen from Bittern hide late afternoon, also Great Egret over the visitor and 2 Wood Sands on the scrape.

Sunday 14th.

Minsmere - 12 Little Gulls still on the scrape + 6 Spotted Redshank.

Hollesley - Spoonbill briefly at Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Trimley Marshes - 2 Spoonbill on the reserve.

Saturday 13th.

Hollesley - Spoonbill on the scrape.

Friday 12th.

Benacre - 3 Great Egrets on the broad.

Hollesley - Spoonbill on the scrape of the RSPB reserve.

Trimley Marshes - Spoonbill on the SWT reserve.

Thursday 11th.

Benacre - Spoonbill on the broad.

Minsmere - The MARSH SANDPIPER was again  present on the reserve though mobile (photo Andrew Moon).

Trimley Marshes - Spotted Redshank still.

Wednesday 10th.

Minsmere - A MARSH SANDPIPER was found on East scrape at 15:19hrs and remained through-out the day. SAVI'S WARBLER still singing from Bittern hide + Great Egret North.

Boyton - Spoonbill Boyton Marshes.

Tuesday 9th.

Minsmere - SAVI'S WARBLER reeling intermittently from Bittern hide.

Hollesley - 2 Spoonbill Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Monday 8th.

Benacre - Spoonbill on the broad + Little Gull.

Minsmere - 21 Spotted Redshank on the scrape.

Hollesley - 5 Spoonbill on the scrape this atternoon.

Trimley Marshes - Spoonbill at the SWT reserve + 2 Spotted Redshank.

Hintlesham - 3 RAVEN East over Hintlesham Great Wood late morning.

West Stow - 2 singing mail Quail at Icknield Way at TL.793.718.

Sunday 7th.

Minsmere - 12 Little Gulls on the scrape.

West Stow - Quail singing along the Lark Valley footpath at TL.789.722.

Saturday 6th.

Walberswick - Short-eared Owl Walberswick Common.

Minsmere - 13 Little Gull + 9 Spotted Redshank on the scrape.

Hollesley - 5 Spoonbill still Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Friday 5th.

Hollesley - 5 Spoonbill Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Trimley Marsh - 3 Spotted Redshank.

Thursday 4th.

Walberswick - 3 Spotted Redshank Tinkers Marsh.

Lowestoft Area - Quail flushed from Kessingland dunes opposite Heathlands.

Dunwich - Great Egret at the shore pools.

Shingle Street - A Quail was briefly seen.

Micklemere - Wood Sand seen from the hide.

Monday 1st.

Minsmere - No sign of the adult WHITE-WINGED BLACK TERN toady but 8 Little Gull & 6 Spotted Redshank on the scrape.

Hollesley - 2 immature Spoonbill on the scrape.
