JULY HIGHLIGHTS

Saturday 31st.

Waveney Area - PURPLE HERON seen in flight east of the old scrape over Share Marsh Carlton Marshes SWT at 09:44hrs then again at 10:10hrs and then at 12:38hrs when landed in reedbed approx.300 yards north of the visitor centre.

Minsmere - An adult Pectoral Sandpiper was found on east scrape mid morning and remained throughout the day, though generally elusive + Wood Sand present.

Alde Estuary - 2 Greater Scaup on the flood relief channel on Town Marshes. 15 Spoonbill + summer plumage Curlew Sand were the highlights from Hazelwood Marshes this morning.

Hollesley - 4 Wood Sands still Hollesley Marshes + 14 LRP.

Needham Market - Wood Sand still Pipps Ford.

Friday 30th.

Southwold - The escaped male Housefinch sporting a green metal ring continues to show in the town (photo Jonathan Hadgraft). 2 Manx Shearwater + Arctic Skua offshore prior to 09:30hrs.

Blythburgh - 2 Curlew Sands on the estuary.

Minsmere - Wood Sand on east scrape + juvenile limosa Black-tailed Godwit & 19 Spot Reds on west scrape. Offshore, Sooty Shearwater north around 10:00hrs.

Thorpeness - Black Tern south offshore at 11:35hrs.

Hollesley - 5 Wood Sands on the scrape at Hollesley Marshes + 5 LRP's

Needham Market - Wood Sand Pipps Ford this evening.

Thursday 29th.

Waveney Area - Great Egret Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes.

Minsmere - Wood Sand on east scrape + 14 Little Gulls & 6 Spot Reds. 9 Spot Reds on south scrape though no sign of the Curlew Sands.

Hollesley - 4 Wood Sand Hollesley Marshes + 8 LRP.

Wednesday 28th.

Alde Estuary - 2 LRP on Town Marshes.

Hollesley - 4 LRP, 5 Wood Sand + Spoonbill present from the viewing platform.

Great Livermere - Ruddy Shelduck still Livermere Lake.

Tuesday 27th.

Waveney Area - Juvenile Garganey on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marsh SWT.

Minsmere - Wood Sand, 2 Curlew Sand, 2 limosa Godwits and 19 Spot Reds on south scrape this morning.

Alde Estuary - 5 Spoonbill present on Hazelwood Marshes.

Hollesley - 6 Wood Sand Hollesley Marsh RSPB + Spoonbill.

Monday 26th.

Waveney Area - Adult GULL-BILLED TERN (presumably the Minsmere bird) was found over Peto's Marsh at 14:20hrs and remained on site until c15:45hrs when flew north.

Minsmere - An adult GULL-BILLED TERN was discovered on south scrape at 10:40hrs but soon disappeared, thankfully the bird reappeared at 11:20hrs where it remained until 11:45hrs when flew off west over south belt and was lost to view (photo Andrew Moon), also juvenile Wood Sand, 2 Curlew Sands and 2 limosa Godwits noted on the scrape.

Hollesley - 2 Spoonbill Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Sunday 25th.

Minsmere - 2 Curlew Sand on south scrape + 12 Little Gull.

Alde Estuary - Spoonbill present at Iken Cliff.

Hollesley - 2 Wood Sand Hollesley Marshes from the viewing platform + 2 Spoonbill.

Saturday 24th.

Minsmere - No sign of the adult White-rumped Sand despite diligent searching through the ever increasing Dunlin flock on south scrape all morning, however, the bird was reported in flight over east scrape early afternoon, also 2 Curlew Sand, Wood Sand & 3 Little Gulls were present on south scrape.

Boyton - Spoonbill Boyton Marshes.

Hollesley - 3 Wood Sand Hollesley Marshes + 4 Spoonbill (ad + 3 juvs) & Little Gull noted.

Friday 23rd.

Minsmere - The adult WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER continues to show on south scrape + 2 Curlew Sands & 2 Little Gull.

Hollesley - Juvenile Wood Sand Hollesley Marsh RSPB + 3 Spoonbill.

Deben Estuary - Great Egret at Ramsholt Lodge Marsh

Thursday 22nd.

Minsmere - Adult WHITE-RUMPED SAND still on south scrape 

Boyton - Spoonbill Boyton Marshes early morning only.

Hollesley - 3 Spoonbill Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Wednesday 21st.

Minsmere - The adult WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER continues to show from the public viewing screen and south hide (photo Peter Lakey).

Hollesley - 7 Spoonbill on the scrape.

Tuesday 20th.

Minsmere - The adult WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was again present on south scrape throughout the day, also adult Roseate Tern, 3 Black Tern & 3 Little Gull present.

Sizewell - Cattle Egret south at 16:20hrs.

Hollesley - Wood Warbler trapped & ringed in the village this morning.

Barking - 6 Ravens over Barking church this morning.

Monday 19th.

Minsmere - An adult WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was present on south scrape early, also 15+ Spotted Redshank, 2 Continental Black-tailed Godwit (nominate form limosa) + 2 ad Little Gull noted..

Hollesley - 4 Spoonbill Hollesley Marshes early afternoon then flew NE.

Felixstowe - A Roseate Tern was seen amongst Common Terns off LBO this morning.

Sunday 18th.

Minsmere - Cattle Egret north over the scrape at 07:30hrs + 2 Continental Black-Godwits (nominate form limosa) remain on south scrape.

Boyton - Single Spoonbill on  the flash at Boyton Marshes early then flew north.

Hollesley - Up to 7 Spoonbill on the scrape at Hollesley Marshes then flew north at 10:00hrs.

Saturday 17th.

Waveney Area - 2 Great Egret seen at dusk on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes SWT + 104 Little Egret, nearby 2 Great Egret were present at Aldeby.

Benacre - 2 Greater Scaup still on the broad.

Minsmere - Adult Roseate Tern on south scrape early morning + 2 Continental Black-tailed Godwits (nominate form limosa).

Hollesley - 3 Spoonbill on the scrape at 13:00hrs.

Woodbridge - Raven west over Bredfield Road.

Friday 16th.

Waveney Area - 4 Great Egret Carlton Marshes SWT.

Blythburgh - Juv Glaucous Gull on the Blyth Estuary viewable from Hen Reedbeds.

Minsmere - 2 adult Roseate Tern on south scrape + Arctic Tern, other highlights from around the scrape included 12 Little Gull, 2 limosa Continental Black-tailed Godwits (juv + adult), 15 Spotted Redshanks & 3 LRP.

Hollesley - 15 Spoonbill Hollesley Marshes + Great Egret.

Thursday 15th.

Benacre - 2 Greater Scaup on the broad.

Minsmere - 2 adult Roseate Tern again on south scrape + 6 Little Gull.

Alde Estuary - Osprey still Hazelwood Marshes though distant + 3 Spoonbill.

Wednesday 14th.

Waveney Area - Wood Sand at Carlton Marsh SWT from Turnpike Hide + 2 Great Egret.

Bluthburgh - 4 Spoonbill on the estuary.

Minsmere - An un-ringed Roseate Tern was present on south scrape + 15 Spotted Redshank & 6 Little Gulls.

Bentley - 3+ BEE-EATERS reported south over the village this afternoon.

Great Livermere - German rung Caspian Gull on Livermere Lake this afternoon + 18 YLG

Lakenheath - 2 Garganey Lakenheath Fen RSPB.

Tuesday 13th.

Waveney Area - Quail heard calling this morning from a spring-sown barley field.

Wangford - BLACK KITE seen over Wangford heading towards Stoven at 15:15hrs.

Benacre - 2 Greater Scaup on the broad.

Minsmere - 2 adult Roseate Tern again on south scrape viewable from the public screen.

Alde Estuary - Osprey still present at Hazelwood Marshes.

Monday 12th.

Waveney Area - Wood Sand still Carlton Marshes SWT from Turnpike Hide + 3 Great Egret.

Southwold - Escaped House Finch seen on feeders along the harbour mouth for 2nd day.

Minsmere - 2 adult Little Gull still on south scrape.

Alde Estuary - Osprey again Hazelwood Marshes.

Sunday 11th.

Minsmere - Adult Roseate Tern again on south scrape late morning, also noted were 2 Great Egret on south levels + 2 adult Little Gull, 4 Spot Reds & Little Stint on the scrape.

Boyton - Spoonbill on the flash this morning.

Saturday 10th.

Waveney Area - Wood Sand at Carlton Marshes from Turnpike Hide.

Minsmere - 2 Little Gull on south scrape.

Hollesley - Spoonbill on the scrape.

Friday 9th.

Benacre - Drake Greater Scaup on the broad.

Minsmere - Roseate Tern + 1s Arctic Tern on south scrape + 1s Little Gull on west scrape.

Boyton - Spoonbill Boyton Marshes.

Hollesley - 3 Spoonbill Hollesley Marshes.

Thursday 8th.

Minsmere - Highlights from around the reserve included an adult Curlew Sand, Little Gull, Black Tern and Roseate Tern all from south scrape.

Alde Estuary - 4 Spoonbill at Hazelwood Marshes + Osprey. Spoonbill seen at Snape Warren.

Deben Estuary - Spoonbill Ramsholt Lodge Marsh + Curlew Sand noted at Kirton Creek.

Wednesday 7th.

Wetherden - A Whinchat was noted in fields in Upper Town.

Tuesday 6th.

North Warren - Cattle Egret seen amongst cows on south marsh this morning.

Alde Estuary - Osprey still present at Hazelwood Marshes + 2 Spoonbill.

Boyton - Cattle Egret seen briefly at Boyton Marshes before flying towards Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Hollesley- 2 Spoonbill Hollesley Marshes.

Monday 5th.

Waveney Area - Juvenile Garganey Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes + 2 Great Egret.

Alde Estuary - Osprey again Hazelwood Marshes.

Boyton - Spoonbill Boyton Marsh RSPB.

Felixstowe - A male SERIN was heard singing briefly this afternoon at LBO.

Sunday 4th.

Waveney Area - WHITE-TAILED EAGLE south over New Road Bradwell at 12:27hrs. Moulting adult Little Gull south off Lowestoft North Beach this evening.

Alde Estuary - Osprey seen from Hazelwood Marshes today.

Boyton - Spoonbill Boyton Marshes.

Hollesley - 3 Spoonbill Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Saturday 3rd.

Waveney Area - Cattle Egret on Peto's Marsh + 4 Great Egret & juvenile Garganey noted.

Dunwich - The House Finch (sporting a Green ring) was once again on the feeders by Coastguard cottages today.

Boyton - Spoonbill NE over the marshes early morning.

Friday 2nd.

Dunwich - A House Finch was seen on feeders this evening by the Coastguard cottages.

Minsmere - 2 Little Gull on south scrape.

Alde Estuary - 2 BEE-EATER north over Iken Cliff at 08:53hrs + Osprey north over Snape Maltings.

Woodbridge - Raven west over Bredfield Road calling this evening.

Great Livermere - 2 Ruddy Shelduck reported from Livermere Lake.

Thursday 1st.

Waveney Area - 2 Roseate Tern north past Lowestoft North Beach at 17:45hrs.

Minsmere - The RED-NECKED PHALAROPE (photo Andrew Mooncontinues to show on the scrape today though mobile, other highlights from around the reserve included Spoonbill north shortly after midday, 2 Arctic Tern (ad & 1st sum) on south scrape and finally a full summer plumage Cattle Egret seen south over the scrape and appeared to land on south levels at 18:47hrs.

Needham Market - Raven seen on pylons south of the caravan park along Barrett's Lane.

Icklingham - The ROLLER continues to show in field on wires 1/2ml SE of Icklingham just north of the A1101. Please do not park on the A1101.
