JUNE HIGHLIGHTS

Wednesday 30th.

Minsmere - A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was discovered on briefly south scrape at 10:50 before moving on, fortunately the bird was soon relocated on west scrape were it remained until well in to the evening + 2 limosa Godwits. 2 adult Roseate Tern still south scrape + Arctic Tern & 1st sum Little Gull.

Hollesley - 2 Spoonbill on the scrape at Hollesley Marshes..

Icklingham - The ROLLER continued t show to all comers on wires north of A1101 1/2ml SE of Icklingham.

Tuesday 29th.

Minsmere - The 1st summer PURPLE HERON was again seen throughout the day in flight over the main reed-bed and then landed on south levels this evening. Roseate Tern again on south scrape + 2 limosa Godwits.

Felixstowe - 4 Black Redstart (2 juvenile) still at LBO.

Lackford - Juvenile Glossy Ibis still at Lackford Lakes SWT on The Slough

Icklingham - The ROLLER continues to show well to all comers in fields just north of the A1101.

Lakenheath - Osprey seen from Joist Fen at 09:30hrs.

Monday 28th.

Minsmere - The 1st summer PURPLE HERON was again present and showing on & off from Bittern hide mid morning through to early afternoon. Adult Roseate Tern again on south scrape though mobile + 13 Spotted Redshank.

Hollesley - Drake Garganey Hollesley Marshes.

Felixstowe - 3 Black Redstart at LBO including a juvenile bird that was ringed.

Trimley Marshes - 2 Spotted Redshank on the SWT reserve.

Lackford - Juvenile Glossy Ibis again on the SWT reserve viewable from Paul's hide.

Icklingham - The ROLLER continues to show just north of the A1101 favouring wires above sheep field.

Sunday 27th.

Minsmere - 1st summer PURPLE HERON seen again the morning over the reed-bed between Bittern hide and the wildlife lookout. 1 Roseate Tern seen on south scrape, also noted on the reserve, 10 Spotted Redshank + Garganey.

Lackford - 1w Glossy Ibis still at Lavkford Lakes SWT

Icklingham - The ROLLER continues to reside in fields just north of the A1101 1/2ml SE of Icklingham.

Saturday 26th.

Waveney Area - 3 Spoonbill on Peto's Marsh Carlton Marshes.

Minsmere - The 1st summer PURPLE HERON was seen in flight from Bittern hide at 06:56hrs. Also on the reserve, 3 Roseate Tern + Arctic Tern on south scrape.

Icklingham - The ROLLER continues to show well in fields 1/2 SE of Icklingham north of the A1101 (photo Bill Baston).

Lackford - The juvenile Glossy Ibis continues to show at Lackford Lakes SWT.

Friday 25th.

Minsmere - 5 Roseate Tern present on south scrape though today mobile + Black & Arctic Terns present this evening. The 1st summer PURPLE HERON was again seen in flight from Bittern hide.

Felixstowe - 2 Black Redstart at LBO.

Lackford - Juvenile Glossy Ibis still Lackford Lakes SWT on the slough.

Icklingham - The ROLLER continues to perform well 1/2ml SE of Icklingham in sheep field just north of the A1101. Please do not park on the busy A1101.

Newmarket - A ROLLER was seen to fly east over the A14 at 15:00hrs.

Thursday 24th.

Minsmere - A 1st summer PURPLE HERON was seen in flight from West hide at 09:41hrs and then sporadically in flight throughout the day. 2 adult Roseate Tern were again on south scrape (1 ringed & 1 unringed) + 5 Spotted Redshank.

Sizewell - A Hawfinch was seen just west of Sizewall Hall at 08:30hrs.

Lackford - The juvenile Glossy Ibis was again on the Slough this afternoon viewable from Paul's hide.

Icklingham - The ROLLER was again present and showing well throughout the day on wires in sheep field north of the A1101. Please park at Ramparts Field picnic site and not along the A1101.

Wednesday 23rd.

Minsmere - 2 adult Roseate Tern again on south scrape though mobile + 2 Garganey & 5 Spotted Redshank the highlights from around the scrape.

Lackford - An adult ROLLER was discovered around 09:00hrs along the A1101 between Lackford - Cavenham. Although initially mobile, the bird soon settled down after being re-found early afternoon 1ml NNW of Lackford + 1/2ml SE of Icklingham on wires over sheep field north of A1101. Tuesday 22nd.

Waveney Area - The 9 BEE-EATERS remain viewable from High Mill Link Road, Great Yarmouth (present for 5th day).

Minsmere - 3 adult Roseate Terns now on south scrape.

Kesgrave - IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF still present on Foxhall Heath.

Monday 21st.

Waveney Area - 9 BEE-EATERS were seen along High Mill Link Road, Great Yarmouth. 3 Great Egrets on Peto's Marsh + 1st summer Spoonbill.

Minsmere - Both the adult Roseate Terns & 1st summer Arctic Tern were on south scrape throughout the day.

Trimley - Female Garganey present on the scrape at the SWT reserve.

Lackford - Glossy Ibis still on the SWT reserve.

Sunday 20th.

Minsmere - The 2 adult Roseate Terns (both ringed) were again on south scrape today + 1st summer Arctic Tern briefly.

Hollesley - Female Garganey on the winter flood at Hollesley Marshes.

Trimley Marshes - An adult WHITE-WINGED BLACK TERN was discovered on the reservoir shortly after 10:00hrs but soon moved on.

Kesgrave - The singing male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF remains in residence on Foxhall Heath just south of the stadium.

Lackford - Glossy Ibis still on the SWT reserve showing on the slough

Great Livermere - The Ruddy Shelduck was again seen on Livermere Lake.

Saturday 19th.

Minsmere - 2 adult Roseate Terns (both ringed) on south this morning + 3 summer plumage Spotted Redshank.

Boyton - 2 adult Spoonbill at Boyton Marshes, also seen at Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Trimley Marshes - Short-eared Owl just east of the managed retreat + 3 Garganey on the SWT reserve.

Great Livermere - 2cy Caspian Gull, 10 Yellow-legged Gull + Ruddy Shelduck Livermere Lake.

Friday 18th.

Waveney Area - Great Egret on the beach at Kessingland by the steps to Heathlands at 09:30hrs.

Thursday 17th.

Minsmere - 1s summer Caspian Gull on the scrape this evening + drake Garganey. 4 Spotted Redshank seen this morning.

Wednesday 16th.

Waveney Area - 3 Great Egret Peto's Marsh Carlton Marsh SWT.

Minsmere - 2 Garganey (1 drake), 2 x 1st sum Little Gull, 1st sum Arctic Tern & 2 Spot Reds on the reserve.

Boyton - Spoonbill on the flash at 09:30hrs.

Hollesley - 2 adult Spoonbill again at Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Kesgrave - The long-staying singing male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF remain just south of the speedway stadium.

Tuesday 15th.

Tunstall - Adult ROSE-COLOURED STARLING seen in the village.

Woodbridge - 6 Raven west over Bredfield Road this evening.

Felixstowe - An adult ROSE-COLOURED STARLING was seen by the point at LBO prior to 07:00hrs and throughout the morning though mobile

Monday 14th.

Boyton - 2 Spoonbill on the flash this afternoon.

Woodbridge - 5 Raven east over Grundisburgh Road at 1745hrs.

Felixstowe - 4+ Black Redstart still present at LBO.

Ipswich - A BLACK KITE was reported NW of the town over junction 53 A14 at 15:00hrs.

Lackford - The juvenile Glossy Ibis continues to show at the SWT reserve.

SAVI'S WARBLER present at Lakenheath for c3 weeks during May + male RED-FOOTED FALCON seen at Minsmere last week (no date given).

Sunday 13th.

Waveney Area - 9+ BEE-EATERS flew SW over Carlton Marsh SWT at 07:08hrs.

Minsmere - A HONEY BUZZARD was seen to fly north over south belt at 08:00hrs + Spot Redshank & Arctic Tern on the scrape. The adult Roseate Tern was again on the scrape this evening.

Boyton - Spoonbill again Boyton Marshes,

Melton - 3 Ravens (calling) over this evening

Saturday 12th.

Waveney Area - COLLARED PRATINCOLE (Southwold bird) was found over Peto's Marsh Carlton Marsh SWT at 10:03hrs, the bird was generally elusive & mainly being seen in flight + Wood Sand.

Southwold - COLLARED PRATINCOLE seen over Town Marshes at 09:12hrs then flew up the Blyth Estuary at 09:20hrs (Minsmere bird)

Minsmere - A PRATINCOLE sp (probably COLLARED) was seen high north over the scrape at 08:51hrs.

Aldeburgh - 3 BEE-EATERS seen north over The Red House at 11:54hrs.

Friday 11th.

Minsmere - Adult Roseate Tern again on south scrape viewable from the public viewing screen this afternoon.

Boyton - Spoonbill Boyton Marsh RSPB.

Hollesley - 1st summer Glaucous Gull seen on the shingle ridge at Hollesley viewed from the sea all this evening.

Thursday 10th.

Waveney Area - A ROSE-COLOURED STARLING was present at Hamilton Dock, Lowestoft this evening.

Minsmere - Adult Roseate Tern again on south scrape this afternoon.

Alde Estuary - Spoonbill east over Iken Cliff this evening,

Felixstowe - A MARSH WARBLER was discovered late morning at LBO, the bird favoured the scrub area approx. 50 yards south of the pond along the Butts though very elusive + 3 Black Redstart present.

Wednesday 9th.

Walberswick - The PURPLE HERON was again noted late morning as it was seen in flight heading towards the western end of the reedbed.

Wenhaston - Great Egret SW over Blackheath early evening.

Minsmere - The adult Roseate Tern continued to frequent south scrape whilst not out at sea + Spotted Redshank on east scrape.

Felixstowe - The adult ROSE-COLOURED STARLING was again reported on the common at LBO early morning.

Tuesday 8th.

Minsmere - The adult Roseate Tern (ringed) was again present on south scrape.

Lackford - Glossy Ibis still on the SWT reserve from Bernard's hide.

Monday 7th.

Southwold - A singing male COMMON ROSEFINCH was present briefly by the boating lake then flew north at 08:04hrs (photo c/o Brian Small).

Walberswick - The PURPLE HERON was again noted in the NW corner of Westwood Marsh (photo c/o Brian Small) + the 1st summer male RED-FOOTED FALCON remains.

Minsmere - An adult Roseate Tern was seen on south scrape from 10:30 - 14:40hrs at least.

Felixstowe - The adult ROSE-COLOURED STARLING was again on the common at LBO early morning though mobile.

Lackford - The juvenile Glossy Ibis still present at Lackford Lakes SWT.


Sunday 6th.

Waveney Area - 2 Spoonbill over the north end of Peto's Marsh at 09:30hrs before drifting off north, also Common Crane seen over Peto's Marsh and over Aldeby / Waveney River Centre late morning.

Reydon - 3 WHITE STORK were reported high north over Reydon Smeare reedbed at 09:13hrs.

Walbersick - The 1st summer male RED-FOOTED FALCON was again seen over Westwood Marsh, also the adult PURPLE HERON showed at the far west end of the marsh at 09:12hrs and again in flight below Westwood Covert mid afternoon + 3 Common Crane north at 09:00hrs

Minsmere - Probable PURPLE HERON seen in flight heading NE at 12:57hrs

Alde Estuary - Great Egret & Spoonbill seen at Hazelwood Marshes this morning.

Hollesley - Spoonbill Hollesley Marshes + Blue-headed Wagtail

Felixstowe - An adult ROSE-COLOURED STARLING was seen north over the "icky ridge" Landguard with c20 Common Starling at 07:10hrs and remained on site until early afternoon though mobile (photo Will Brame).

Ipswich - A Common Crane was seen high south over Ipswich hospital at 1630hrs.

Trimley Marshes - Curlew Sand from Benson hide.

Lackford - The juvenile Glossy Ibis remain on the SWT reserve and showing from Bernard's hide

Saturday 5th.

Waveney Area - A 1st summer PURPLE HERON was seen mid morning on Pet's Marsh Carlton Marsh SWT.

Walberswick - A 1st summer male RED-FOOTED FALCON was noted at the east end of Westwood Marshes viewable from Fen path late morning and was still present until late evening + an adult PURPLE HERON was see seen (photo Brian Small).

Dunwich - A male Red-backed Shrike was found late morning in the felled area of the forest 500 yards south of Potton Hall in gorse just east of the pine plantation and remained until late evening (photo Andrew Moon).

Minsmere - A male GOLDEN ORIOLE as seen in flight over the main reedbed at c10:40hrs and appeared to carry on it's journey northwards + Curlew Sand on the reserve.

Butley - 2 Spoonbill over Butley Creek at 09:38hrs.

Kesgrave - The long-staying singing male IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF remain on Foxhall Heath approx. 150 yards south of the stadium though mobile.

Felixstowe - Black Redstart still at LBO.

Ipswich - 3 Common Crane high east then south over Alan Road at 14:56hrs.

Stour Estuary - 3 Common Crane west over the southern edge of East Bergholt at 15:36hrs (same as the Ipswich birds).

Lackford - The juvenile Glossy Ibis continues to show on the Lackford Lakes SWT reserve today.

Friday 4th.

Waveney Area - Raven over Flixton Park & Village (Bungay).

Reydon - 6 Common Crane west over Reydon at 18:36hrs.

Dunwich - Osprey south over the cliffs at 08:00hrs

Felixstowe - Black Restart still present at LBO.

Lackford - A Glossy Ibis was seen on the slough at the SWT reserve reserve Lackford Lakes.

Thursday 3rd.

Thorpeness - Drake Garganey noted on the Meare late afternoon.

Hollesley - Spoonbill Hollesley Marsh RSPB.

Deben Estuary - Spoonbill Ramsholt Lodge Marsh.

Felixstowe - 2 Black Redstart still present at LBO.

Witnesham - BLACK KITE reported NW over Fynn Valley Golf Club at 10:00hrs.

Wednesday 2nd.

Waveney Area - 3 Spoonbill Carlton Marshes early morning.

Southwold - Male Whinchat Easton Bavents along hedgerow adjacent to pig fields.

Minsmere - Drake Garganey still present on the reserve viewable from North Hide.

Deben Estuary - 3 Common Crane over Martlesham Creek at 11:30hrs then flew south towards Ramsholt.

Felixstowe - A SERIN was seen to fly south over Sunningdale Drive at 13:00hrs. Pied Flycatcher along the Butts near the Customs House this morning.

Tuesday 1st.

Minsmere - Drake Garganey seen on both South and West scrape today.

North Warren - 3 Spoonbill on South Marsh this evening

Orford - 3 Spoonbill north at 09:45hrs.

Trimley Marshes - 2 BLACK-WINGED STILTS remain on the summer flood though mobile + LRP noted.
