SEPTEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

Monday 30th.

Reydon - Common Redstart at Hen Reedbeds car park.

Minsmere - 2 Spoonbill South mid morning + Great Egret South over North Marsh.

Shingle Street - Ring-tail Hen Harrier North over the pumping station at 16:30hrs.

Bawdsey - Spotted Flycatcher & Firecrest noted at East Lane.

Deben Estuary - 2 juvenile Curlew Sands on the salting's at the ferry

Trimley Marshes - Spoonbill still on the reservoir + Ring Ouzel briefly.

Sunday 29th.

Minsmere - Great Egret still on Island Mere.

Trimley Marshes - Spoonbill the reservoir.

Stour Estuary - Osprey seen late morning from Manningtree.

Lakenheath - Great Egret present on the RSPB reserve.

Saturday 28th.

Minsmere - Great Egret Island Mere early morning.

Boyton - Spoonbill Boyton Marshes.

Bawdsey - Spotted Fly at East Lane.

Deben Estuary - 2 juvenile Curlew Sands on Felixstowe ferry salting's.

Trimley Marshes - Spoonbill + juvenile Little Stint on the reservoir at the SWT reserve.

Levington - Raven over the village this morning. 

Lakenheath - Cattle Egret on Hockwold Washes.

Friday 27th.

Southwold - Great Egret over the town at 08:10hrs.

Minsmere - Up to 3 Great Egrets on the reserve today.

Bawdsey - Firecrest seen at East Lane today.

Trimley Marshes - Juvenile Little Stint on the reservoir + Spotted Redshank still present.

Witnesham - Raven seen and heard in the village this morning.

Thursday 26th.

Southwold - A Cattle Egret was present on North Marsh this morning (photo Brian Small).

Minsmere - Great Egret on North Marsh + Spotted Fly in the sluice bushes.

Slaughden - 4 Arctic Skua + Hobby offshore.

Trimley Marshes - Spotted Redshank on the SWT reserve.

Wednesday 25th.

Southwold - The first Yellow-browed Warbler of the autumn was heard at Waters Copse at 11:00hrs.

Minsmere - The long-staying Pectoral Sandpiper continues to show on the konik field + Little Stint & Curlew Sand on East scrape.

Havergate - 16 Spoonbill on the RSPB reserve.

Tuesday 24th.

Covehithe - Sooty Shearwater North offshore at 09:26hrs.

Southwold - Manx Shearwater + Black Tern offshore. Firecrest seen in Waters Copse.

Minsmere - Juvenile Pec Sand still on the konik field  Little Stint on East scrape. Black Tern offshore.

Trimley Marshes - Little Stint on the reservoir.

Monday 23rd.

Minsmere - Juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper still on the konik field + Little Stint on East scrape. Great Egret seen between the reserve and Dunwich.

Sizewell - A Grasshopper Warbler was present North of the car park

Havergate - 19 Spoonbill on the RSPB reserve.

Boyton - A Fieldfare was seen in the village early morning.

Trimley Marshes - Little Stint on the reservoir of the SWT reserve though distant.

Sunday 22nd.

Lowestoft Area - Pied Flycatcher present in Sparrows Nest Park along the top loop. 2 Black Redstart at the SLP yard, Ness Point. Short-eared Owl in of at Kessingland sluice.

Blythburgh - Osprey still on the estuary viewable distantly from the White Horse PH.

Minsmere - Juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper still on the konik field + Little Stint on the scrape.

Aldeburgh - Both Firecrest and Whinchat noted around the town.

Slaughden - A Short-eared Owl was seen to come in of at 07:30hrs.

Felixstowe - A 1st winter RED-BREASTED FLYCATCHER was trapped, ringed and released at LBO. The bird favoured trees by the kitchen within the compound though was rather elusive, also Firecrest present. (photo Will Brame) near-by a  Pied Flycatcher was seen in Adastral Close (please view only from road).

Saturday 21st.

Lowestoft Area - A Leaches Petrel was seen North off Ness Point at 08:40hrs (same as Southwold bird). Great Egret Carlton Marshes SWT.

Southwold - Leaches Petrel North offshore at 07:55hrs.

Minsmere - The juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper continues to show on the konik field though can be rather elusive and mobile at times + 2 Curlew Sands on East scrape.

Felixstowe - Purple Sand on the point at LBO.

Friday 20th.

Minsmere - Juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper again on the konik field though mobile + 2 Curlew Sands on the scrape.

Sizewell - c30 Little Gulls off the rigs this evening + 2 Black Redstart by Sizewell B.

Alde Estuary - 16 Spoonbill seen at Hazelwood Marsh early morning.

Orfordness - A Barred Warbler was trapped on the NT reserve this morning.

Bawdsey - Sea-watching from East Lane this morning produced a dark juvenile LONG-TAILED SKUA which flew South at 08:24hrs, PUFFIN North at 09:26hrs & 2 Northward bound Sooty Shearwaters (08:10hrs & 08:55hrs).

Felixstowe - A European Storm Petrel was seen North close inshore off LBO at 10:54hrs.

Stour Estuary - Osprey fishing on the river viewable from Mistley and Cattawade.

Thursday 19th.

Easton Bavents - The confiding Lapland Bunting continued to show well in stubble field North of the clifftop cottages.

Minsmere - Juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper still showing well on the konik field + 3 Curlew Sand on East scrape.

Alde Estuary - 15 Spoonbill Hazelwood Marshes.

Felixstowe - Pied Fly at LBO.

Trimley - Eclipse drake Garganey still at Loompit Lake.

Willisahm - 2 Raven over the village at 19:15hrs.

Wednesday 18th.

Easton Bavents - A confiding Lapland Bunting was present in stubble 400 yards North of the cliff top cottages. Park at Reydon Industrial estate and walk the track to the coast, please do not park or drive along track as this is private. (photo Brian Small).

Blyth Estuary - Osprey still viewable from Hen Reedbeds though distant.

Minsmere - The juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper continues to show well on the konik field, also Little Stint & Curlew Sand on the scrape.

Thorpeness - A Long-tailed Skua was seen North offshore + Great Northern Diver & 2 Bonxie noted.

Tuesday 17th.

Lowestoft Area - Sooty Shearwater North off Corton at 15:30hrs.

Reydon - Osprey Hen Reedbeds.

Minsmere - The juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper continue's to show well on the konik field. 2 Curlew Sand & 2 Little Stint on East scrape.

Alde Estuary - 18 Spoonbill Hazelwood Marshes.

Shingle Street - Whinchat near coastguard cottages.

Deben Estuary - 3 Curlew Sands viewable from Dock Lane, Melton.

Trimley - Garganey present on Loompit Lake.

Stutton - 2 Raven over Queech Lane.

Monday 16th.

Blythburgh - Osprey still on the estuary viewable distantly from Hen Reedbeds.

Minsmere - The juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper was again seen on the konik field at 15:50hrs + 2 Little Stint & 2 Curlew Sands present on East scrape.

Trimley Marsh - Little Stint & Spotted Redshank on the SWT reserve.

Sunday 15th.

Southwold - 2 Whinchat by the sheep paddocks North of the pier.

Blyth Est - Osprey from Hen Reedbeds still.

Minsmere - The juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper continues to show on the konik field though can be mobile + 2 Curlew Sands & 2 Little Stint present.

Thorpeness - Spotted Fly + Whinchat by the allotments/common.

Bawdsey - Whinchat along the cliffs.

Deben Estuary - Curlew Sand Felixstowe Ferry saltings + Red Kite over.

Saturday 14th.

Blyth Estuary - Osprey viewed from Hen Reedbeds.

Minsmere - The juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper continues to show on the konik field. 4 Curlew Sands & Little Stint noted on East scrape. The Cattle Egret was again seen but proved to be rather mobile.

Alde Estuary - 11 Whinchat noted early morning.

Felixstowe - Common Redstart LBO.

Stour Estuary - A juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper was discovered on the North shore of the river approx 100m East of the A137 White Bridge just after 16:00hrs then flew East over the railway towards the factory roost at 17:00hrs.

Stonham - 2 Ravens at Brewery Farm before flying South over A1120.

Friday 13th.

Lowestoft Area - 2 Pied Flycatcher at Pathways Farm.

Covehithe - Common Redstart in clifftop hedgerow.

Blyth Est - Osprey viewable from Hen Reedbeds.

Minsmere - The juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper was again present on the konik field early afternoon before moving to the scrape, also 2 Little Stint & Curlew Sand noted. The Cattle Egret was again on West scrape today though mobile.

Alde Estuary - 22 Spoonbill on Hazelwood Marshes + 17 Whinchat around the estuary.

Felixstowe - A juvenile RED-FOOTED FALCON was seen over LBO before drifting off North around 10:30hrs and may of been seen at Shottisahm at 14:00hrs (distant record shot Will Brame) + Common Redstart & 3 Tree Sparrow.

Stour Estuary - Unconfirmed report of 3 Cattle Egret noted from the white bridge at Cattawade, also 2 juvenile Curlew Sand on the river.

Lackford - Osprey reported again from the SWT reserve.

Thursday 12th.

Southwold - A Ring-tail Harrier sp was seen distantly from the flash over Walberswick North Marsh at 14:00hrs before drifting off South. 2 Whinchat at the sheep paddocks just North of the pier.

Reydon - 3 Whinchat Hen Reedbeds.

Minsmere - The Cattle Egret was seen early morning on South levels before flying off South. The first Lapland Bunting of the autumn was noted South at 07:32hrs. On the scrape, a juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper was discovered on East scrape this morning and remained on site though mobile + Curlew Sand & Little Stint present. (photo Peter Lakey).

Alde Estuary - 16 Spoonbill from Haelwood Marsh + Wood Sand & 5 Whinchat around the estuary.

Snape - 2 Great Egrets on Botany Marsh.

Deben Estuary - Osprey seen at Felixstowe Ferry and then at Ramsholt.

Orwell Estuary - Osprey seen just North o the Orwell bridge/Cliff quay area.

Wednesday 11th.

Blythburgh - Osprey still on the estuary.

Minsmere - The Cattle Egret was again present on West scrape + Curlew Sand & Little Stint on the East scrape.

Felixstowe - 3 Common Redstart + Whinchat at LBO.

Tuesday 10th.

Lowestoft Area - 3 Whinchat North Denes by the net posts.

Benacre - 2 Curlew Sands on the broad.

Blythburgh - Osprey still on the estuary.

Minsmere - Cattle Egret present on East scrape this afternoon though mobile + 2 juvenile Curlew Sands & 1w Little Gull on the scrape. Great Egret South at 15:44hrs.

Thorpeness - Short-eared Owl seen to come in off at the old caravan park.

Alde Estuary - 2 Opsrey still Hazelwood Marshes + 20 Spoonbill

Boyton - Whinchat Boyton Marsh RSPB.

Deben Estuary - Osprey seen flying up river from Ramsholt during the afternoon.

Felixstowe - 2 Common Redstart at LBO.

Trimley Marshes - 2 juvenile Curlew Sands still on the reservoir at the SWT reserve.

Lackord - Osprey from Bernard's hide at the SWT reserve.

Monday 9th.

Blythburgh - Osprey again on the estuary.

Minsmere - A Lesser Golden Plover thought to be PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER based on the Spotted Redshank like call, was seen to fly South over the scrape at 08:40hrs. On the scrape itself, there was no sign of yesterday's Red-necked Phalarope but 4 juvenile Curlew Sands were noted. 2 Whinchat along North wall

Boyton - 4 Spotted Redshank at Boyton Marshes.

Felixstowe - Highlights from LBO included singles of Whinchat & Tree Sparrow + 2 Common Redstart noted.

Trimley Marshes - 2 Spotted Redshank on the SWT reserve.

Sunday 8th.

Lowestot Area - A Cattle Egret was noted high over Carlton Marshes then over Oulton Broad.

Southwold - Sooty Shearwater North offshore.

Blythburgh - Osprey on the Blyth Est viewable from Hen Reedbeds.

Minsmere - A mobile RED-NECKED PHALAROPE (photo Andrew Moon) was discovered on South scrape early afternoon but settling down on East scrape. 2 Curlew Sands and Little Stint on East scrape.

Alde Estuary - 19 Spoonbill at Hazelwood Marshes + Osprey & 5 Whinchat around the Alde (photo Mark Cornish).

Orfordness - Wryneck trapped on the NT reserve.

Havergate - A juvenile SABINE'S GULL was present on Havergate Island from 10:40 - 13:00hrs before flying of North.

Felixstowe - 7 Tree Sparrow + Pied Flycatcher at LBO.

Saturday 7th.

Lowestoft Area - A Manx Shearwater was seen close offshore from Corton at 14:35. 3 Bonxie off Gunton early morning.

Southwold - 10 Bonxie ofshore today.

Minsmere - A 1st winter CITRINE WAGTAIL was reported on South scrape at 16:45hrs. On East scrape, Curlew Sand & Little Stint noted.

Alde Estuary - 19 Spoonbill Hazelwood Marshes.

Stonham - 2 Ravens North along the power lines at Brewery Farm.

Friday 6th.

Covehithe - Sooty Shearwater North offshore.

Minsmere - Curlew Sand on East scrape.

Sizewell - Black Redstart by Sizewell B + 35 Little Gull off the rigs.

Snape - Raven low South at 07:45hrs

Alde Estuary - Wood Sand + 5 Whinchat (photo Mark Cornish).

Lackford - Osprey still Lackford Lake SWT.

Thursday 5th.

Southwold - 2 Long-tailed Skuas seen offshore at 11:07hrs. Juv/1st winter Caspian Gull again in the harbour mouth.

Alde Est - 17 Spoonbill Hazelwood Marshes.

Trimley Marshes - 2 Curlew Sand, LRP & Spotted Redshank on the reservoir.

Lackford - Osprey still Lackford SWT.

Wednesday 4th.

Lowestoft Area - 5 Whinchat Kessingland sluice. (photo Andrew Moon)

Benacre - Juvenile Curlew Sand on the broad + 2 Whinchat.

Alde Estuary - 20+ Spoonbill still at Hazelwood Marshes + Osprey fishing the river early afternoon.

Boyton - 2 Whinchat Boyton Marshes.

Trimley Marshes - Juvenile Curlew Sand on the SWT reserve.

Lackford - Osprey still at the SWT reserve.

Tuesday 3rd.

Minsmere - 1 Cattle Egret remained on South levels today associating with the cattle flock. On the scrape Curlew Sand & Spotted Redshank noted. 6 Whinchat South of the sluice.

Alde Estuary - 24 Spoonbill counted at this evening's high tide + 2 juvenile Curlew Sands.

Shingle Street - Whinchat just beyond Battery Cottage.

Felixstowe - Pied Fly LBO.

Lackford Lakes - Osprey again at the SWT reserve though sightings today where much more intermittent.

Monday 2nd.

Benacre - Juvenile Little Stint on the broad.

Minsmere - 3 Cattle Egret South over the reserve before settling on South levels. Curlew Sand & Little Gull on the scrape.

Deben Estuary - Osprey off Kyson Point mid morning.

Felixstowe - 2 Pied Fly at LBO.

Lackford Lakes - 1 Osprey seen today at the SWT reserve (up to 3 birds seen recently).

Sunday 1st.

Lowestoft Area - 5 Pied Fly at the Northern end of Flycatcher Alley. 2 Pied Fly & 2 Common Redstart along Links Road. Adult Little Gull again Links Road car park. Pied Fly Corton railtrack. 3 Wood Sand Herringfleet Marsh.

Southwold - A juv/1st winter Caspian Gull was again present along the harbour mouth today (photo Brian Small).

Minsmere - Pied Fly still North bushes.

Alde Estuary - 24 Spoonbill Hazelwood Marsh + 2 Osprey and an adult Curlew Sand also 2 Wood Sand and 9 Whinchat around the estuary.

Orfordness - Wryneck trapped on the NT reserve.

Havergate - 2 Spoonbill + 2 Curlew Sand & juvenile Little Stint on the RSPB reserve.

Boyton - 2 Whinchat Boyton Marsh RSPB

Shingle Street - 8 Whinchat still present.

Bramford - Osprey Suffolk Water Park.

Needham Market - Osprey seen distantly from Pipps Ford.

Lackford Lakes - Osprey still at the SWT reserve.
